Yeah, more guns is always the solution... instead of one person getting non-critically hit in a targeted attack, we'd have untrained super-cop civilians spraying bullets everywhere trying to be a hero.

I don't have statistics to back up my statement. My statement wasn't even about it being a solution to the problem. Pick it apart if you want to.
I simply wish there was a way I could defend myself and my family if this happened to us. I'd rather not hide and pray we don't get shot.
This was a targeted shooting. Real Ganstas dun play
There are a lot of situations that people protect themselves even though the odds of being hurt are slim (being hit by lightning, attacked by shark, etc.). Should I just let the government try to correct the situations where we have shootings and merrily be on my way then?
Can you offer me an alternative?
Wait. You guys aren’t packin?
Works every time

Ok, let's stop answering questions with questions. I respect your opinion and thoughts and genuinely want to have a conversation.
I'll go first.
I've never been around a shooting. I don't want to be. I don't know how to mitigate this. I don't know what actions I can take. Just playing the lottery of "ganstas gonna roll" doesn't seem like the answer.
I don't worry about lightning, other than to follow the typical actions thought to be safe (don't swing around metal objects in a storm, stay inside, etc.)
I don't worry about sharks cause I don't go in the ocean.
Though they may not apply to me directly, you can see in both of these situations I can take actions to keep myself and my family safe.
Your turn to answer my questions please.
My point was, don't worry about it, just like with lightning strikes and shark attacks. By arming yourself daily, in the 1 in a billion chance of being in the area of an active shooting, you actually increase the danger of harming your family. Not only do you chance having an accidental firing of your own gun in your families prescence, but in the extremely unlikely event of being in an active shooting scenario, you put a very large target on yourself, unless you manage to completely catch the shooter off guard at point blank range.
Even people who practice with their handguns daily have trouble hitting a distant target when adrenaline kicks in. So if you miss, you now have the shooters full attention at you, and your family.
