Can some pm Gavin’s number to me … my AC unit just quit working
Mine failed last heat wave. On a Saturday. Nobody could come out at all, fully booked up. Tried that reliance comfort place, india call center, sounded total sketch. Had an opening that night, skeptical anyone would show up. Guy arrives on time, 5 mins to diagnose (failed capacitor), repaired in 20 mins.
Highly recommended haha. Seems like they have a ton of people on call.

They rent AC on perpetual plans, kinda scammy, but their service was awesome.
Yeah ive had good luck with reliance in a pinch. Their rates are ok for the services, but they are certainly quick and reliable
reliance is coming this afternoon... i hope its $80 and 20mins ... hahaha but with my luck i will need a new one...
Same happened to us a few years ago. In the middle of a super hot week. Saturday morning. I was a bit pissed that AMRE wanted $60.00 for a $20.00 part, but rethinking the situation I was happy to pay given the heat.
Mrs. Penguin was impressed.
I bought another for a normal price to have on-hand.
It is a failed capacitor, but he did not have the right one with him , they will be back in the morning with the part to fix...
Sounds like caps fail a lot.
Buy a spare and save.
This is who installed my A/C a few years back. They do sell them, alongside the forever rent method. They used to have some "installed next day or you get $99 back" type deal, but for some reason forgot to mention that when they couldn't get me in right away after my quote. Decent company.
Gonna gather quotes soon. Looking at:
W&J
Costco
Gavin *need contact info if anyone can kindly pass along*
Caloris
I think I read somewhere to stay away from Trane products because they use a lot of proprietary parts?
Anyone else come to mind? Anyone not have a good experience with the above companies?
Cheers.
Reliance is very scammy / predatory out east with their rental contracts for hot water heaters and such. People often end up spending 3-4x the value via contract than just buying and there’s huge penalties to break the lease. Would strongly stay away from them for any install for that reason even if buying.
Avoid Clearview.
W&J did my A/C and garage heater. Upfront with pricing, showed up when scheduled, no issues.
What someone needs to invent is an ultraquiet window opener/closer. At 2am you can set second floor windows to open up and then close up at sunrise.
A fancy version could use a thermostat and open up only slightly if its a cool night, or override if the interior air is cooler than outside.
Can anyone recommend a good company to service A/C? Just want to get the system looked at before I turn it on for the spring. Almost every spring I have issues with condensation build up on the coil, and then I need to shut it off and let it melt off.
Change your furnace air filter to the lowest Merv you can get.
Once a month in summer is not too often.
