Well, it's here lol.
Has anyone downloaded this and started playing yet?
I have my reservations with this game as if people aren't already glued to their phones enough but it looks kinda entertaining-ish...

meh. I hit level 5 on it tonight, but it is kinda lame so far.
Its kinda funny though, you can totally tell who else is playing it and hitting up the same locations, and everyone just greets each other with a smirk and a nod....It's really uncomfortable. You don't usually see the real person that you kill, just their COD avatar...
I get more of the server issues screen than actual gameplay...
Only at level 3 and my battery is draining at like 1%/minute.
Yeah I jumped on. My buddy has everything he needs in the same block as his office, I have nothing nearby. Where are some of the more active parts to go?
And I'm eager to see some of the more hilarious (and not tragic) incidents arising from people wandering around trying to ketch the pokemans.
If you like Pokemon go it's based off a game called ingress that you can also check out.
Downloaded it last night - Haven't had the full experience yet.
Started playing last night. Tons of fun, I went along the river and explored a bunch of chinatown I'd never been through before. Really neat how alot of the pokestops are landmarks. As weird as it sounds, in a scenic place (like princess island) it would actually make a good date app. It basically gives markers to walk between so you could just walk & chat aimlessly and see cool things.
So far Level 7, the servers are definitely overloaded but its already better this morning versus yesterday.
Some tips i learned:
Battery pack - Almost a must if you're gonna play a while. GPS + Screen on demolishes batteries
Throwing pokeballs, the smaller the green circle the higher the bonus but only if you throw it through the circle (i.e. harder to do but higher xp reward)
Battling, fuck I wish it was turn based
Gyms & Team you get to choose at level 5. YELLOW FTW
Leveling up pokemon, better to start with a higher CP one than a lower one, but they appear to have the same max (you'll just spend more items on a lower CP to get it to an equivalent max). Doesn't appear to make any difference in cost or max CP whether you level then evolve, or evolve then level. Both hit similar caps that is based on your player level.
There's no poke-centres, need to use potions/revives after battle so be leary about wasting time on a gym thats too strong. Also if your team controls a gym you can A) insert a pokemon to help defend it and B) train against a pokemon inside the gym for XP (though you need to heal after battles so # of potions limits this).
MINE DOESN'T WORK IM SO MAD.

It's not released in Canada yet. For android you need to sideload it, for IOS you can make a US apple account and sign in with that and download it.
That being said like any big online release, the servers took a huge shit today and can't get on to play so maybe its best to wait a bit anyways. Buggy AF when the servers are overloaded.
Mini update though: Claimed 4 gyms and hoping they hold until I can claim some coins.
Sounds like a lot of this overlaps with Ingress (also made by Niantic) as there has been a large increase in new Ingress players this week. A lot of portals in Ingress are gyms in Pokemon Go, but it's easier to use Ingress to find them from what I can gather in some chats.

Got it last night and had me going around my neighbor hood like a retard... and since I work in DT i find em everywhere. Its kina neat and gets kids outta the house. I just have a feeling that everyone knows what im doing when I suddenly stop and look excited and start flicking on my phone.
Team yellow ftw!
Level 8 and holding down the fort at the Bow gym lol. Come at me bro! Also, have a gym locked down in Nolan Hill.

Is that a bad thing? I've gone up to lots of random people and just said, hey are you also playing Pokemon? And started chatting. Met a cute girl named Sky on the peace bridge and then a couple from Australia that were road tripping across North America, and a bunch of others today.Quote:

It's a great game for getting out and getting some exercise and meeting new people. Once it gets properly released in Canada I'm thinking about posting a meetup online, dropping a few lure modules and maybe bring freezies or something.
Hit level 10 walking back from the (real) gym. Have half a dozen cp400's but nothing stronger yet. Servers were fucked during the day so didn't play much at lunch. Trying to score a bunch more nidaran for the second evolution but having issues
yee yee team yellow ftw! Got the gym by Arbour Lake locked in with some other players.Quote:

Don't forget to claim your free gift daily in the shop, top right corner
Pokemon is made by Niantic who made Ingress.
PokeStops and Gyms are portals that were created from Ingress.
Servers are taking a massive hit due to the side loads and other means to play the game in non allowed countries.
Other than that its a pretty shallow game with not a whole lot to offer at this minute... Lots of hype... But its a big let down.
And yes.. if you plan to play for any lengths of time you are going to need a battery pack.
Hmm Haven't had a server issue in the past 2 days.
Getting crazy lag with the VR camera though so I just turned that off.
Currently at lvl 8 with 31 in my pokedex
Anyone read this?

Yeah wtf is going on here.
Coming home from the stampede Saturday night, LRT operator said, and I quote:
"Hey there everybody, this is your friendly LRT operator here. If we happen to have any sudden stops it's because I'm playing The new Pokemon game. Have a nice night".
Obviously he was joking but I didn't know what to think. There was people totally like what did he say? Are we going to be ok? The mini confusion was a little funny.
Level 7 yellow here! - the gym in nolan hill is currently red! Lets meet up sometime and take it out lol.Quote:

This game is pretty funny. On my noon hour I was watching the gym at red arrow on macleod go from yellow to red to blue back to yellow and now to red currently.
I ran down to support the yellow, there was like 2 people standing outside battling.
Still pretty buggy though, i keep getting that gym glitch where it freezes on like 1hp.
Keep an eye out for any pokestops with lures (they'll have stuff floating around them on the map, its obvious once you see it). It's hilarious how many people it attracts. Went to sunnyside and there was probably 40 people sitting and playing at one. Another on princess island park last night and probably 30 people sitting around chatting and playing.Quote:

As for the gym, lots of people are reporting that if you tap slower (basically tap the sped your pokemon can attack or even a hair slower) you get a lot less 1hp glitches. Seems to be if you tap fast it overloads something and bugs out.
Also GO YELLOW/INSTINCT
Lol Lvl 7 Team Yellow.
Near my house I got nothing so progress is slow.
Made eye contact with a guy in Olympic Plaza today. I'm pretty sure we were chasing the same 9 tails.
Potato servers being very potato like today :(
Still way wayyyy better than Thursday/Friday. Seems they're catching up decently well. Hopefully in a week or two itll be stable.Quote:

Soooo, we should have a gathering somewhere. I'd be down to drop a few dollars on a lure module to share with everyone. Mind you I'd probably want to wait until the severs stabilize a bit first.
You get them naturally as you level up. Or you can hold gyms and collect coins and buy them. I think I have 4 or 5 now without spending any money.Quote:

If you haven't noticed already once per day go into the shop and collect coins (top right) it has a 21hr cooldown. Coins are based on 10 per gym you have a pokemon at. So its a good idea to go grab a few gyms and then collect.
The gyms closer to Downtown are so strong lol. Like lvl 15-21.
Just hit lvl 5 so I'm planning to get to a gym and try to battle.
Luckily my office is a pokestop so I've been picking up on pokeballs and potions all day. Not so much pokemon though
Played until I ran out of pokeballs. Looks like I'm out cause I'm not walking anywhere to get more.
I spent the last couple days checking to see which team color downtown would be covered in when it comes to gyms, turns out its yellow. So I went to select yellow, and F'd up and selected blue. FMLQuote:

Can someone explain how people here are playing it? I see people sharing APK links, what is it?
Is it worth playing before its officially released here? Like will I have to restart everything when it actually becomes available
I just DL'ed the pokemon Go app on my iphone yesterday. Registered and started firing off the red balls at pokemon on the map. I don't know shit about pokemon, but I'm finding this interesting because of the interaction with the physical world.
I'm just level 3 so far. I don't understand the credit/upgrade etc stuff yet but I'll get there.
Some very straightforward guides are available here for everything, gives you some tips as the app itself kind of just throws you in with very little explanation.
http://www.idigitaltimes.com/pokemon...ed-know-544262
I learned a lot about capturing pokemon, as well as how certain items actually work.
Each pokemon has a current CP (I think its Combat Points) and a max CP. If you use candies and stardust you can increase the current CP until you reach the max CP for that pokemon. The max CP is affected by your player level. For example at level 5 the max CP for Jynx may be 250, and when you're player levels up to 6, the max CP for Jynx may rise to 275.Quote:

All pokemon of one type (for example Jynx) will have the same max CP at a given player level. So there is no special or stronger ones of each species. That being said, some do have a higher starting CP which just means you'll spend less stardust and candies to reach the max CP.
My advice early on: Don't spend any stardust as you'll burn it all and in a few levels catch something stronger anyways. DO evolve as much as you can as you get 500xp for each evolution. So if you rake in a bunch of pidgeys, evolve them all so you can level up faster and catch stronger pokemon.
Also you can transfer excess/duplicate pokemon to the professor and receive one candy for that species. Aka dump weakling ones and/or if you have a bunch of one kind.
Once you reach level 5 you can battle at gyms. If you do beat a gym and put a pokemon to defend it, I suggest not using your strongest ones because then you can't use them to attack other gyms.
I don't even know WTF this is, but I saw at least 5 large groups of people huddled around with their phones out at lunch hour downtown today playing Pokemon haha.
When one of my Pokemon is battling, do I have to control it during the battle or does it fight on it's own?Quote:

good to know, I just went on full attack mode... lol. stands to reason why I couldn't get past round 1 haha.
I was kind of surprised by all the people by the UoC just wondering around. It is kind of nice to see people get outside, I have to give this game that much.

Went to Kensington, met ~50 others playing this
Went to chinatown/princess island park tonight. Probably 100+ easily walking around. Lots of lure parties downtown. Can just go and linger around all catch good things. Caught a nidoqueen, golduck, meowth there.
Side note: is anyone having problems with their shop not loading? After I click on the icon a blank page appears. Was working last few days but not all of today. Tried to log out and log in but to no avail.
That's the server being laggy/buggy. Try later or reopen the app a few times sadly. Can't do much elseQuote:

The lure party by princess island was awesome tonight, sadly couldn't stay long though
Just made it to Level 5, and now have to choose a team. Any real benefit from one to another?
For those starting, I found it worked well being in a car, so it was easy to collect stops and Pokémon. Easy way to waste time if you are a passenger of course.
Kind of strange to come through Chinatown last night close to midnight and see bunches off people all busy on their cell phones - they sure are obvious.
Not a huge benefit. Blue seems to be the most popular which is good and bad. On one hand, lots of blue gyms you can help level up and collect coins from having pokemon inside it, on the downside, you get more XP from overtaking a gym than you do levelling it up.Quote:

In the long run it really doesn't matter. If you have any friends playing I'd just join them as it makes it more interesting (You can do team battles vs gyms)

I am just wondering maybe someone can answer this, by the sounds of it this game drains your battery. Game play is based off using GPS, how much data are people going through? I can't say with certainty but I think some carriers in the states provide massive data packages where here in Canada your looking at what maybe 6Gb how fast would people go through it?
Since the game was released, I have used .2GB in total. Haven't played too much but I'm at lvl 8 now
Very little data. Just in case you missed above... thats 0.2GBQuote:

Battery usage.... a lot. Will leave home (shawnessey area) with 95% and be under 60 by the time I get downtown on the train while playing the whole way.
Data is minimal. It uses google maps as a backend I think but minimal detail on it. I've used 44mb with probably 20-30hrs (actually probably more) of walking around now.
As for the battery I just take my 12000mah charger and use it the entire time. Otherwise my iphone 5's battery is toast in about 45 min (though my phones a POS on a normal day)
  Lure partiesQuote:

Just curious now that I realize we are on the battery topic. Are those people who have terrible battery life on android or apple or both? I was reading somewhere that there is malware on android through the side loaded app that highjacks your data and is atrocious to battery life.
I stopped by yesterday too - probably passed you. caught nidoqueen and a bulbasaur thats and a shit ton of zubatsQuote:

Tonight a dragonite spawned just off prince's island park near the double lures. Almost 100 people running around to find it by the time everyone found it, was hilarious fun.
lol just saw this on facebook
For me a lot of it is my settings. I have a privacy cover that makes my screen a bit darker in general, so I have my brightness turned up. Then you leave the screen on for 45 min straight and its going to kill battery.Quote:

I have used 180mb of off wifi data and that is every day to and from on the train in the morning, playing a bit while sitting at the desk, and then taking a walk at lunch when it has not been raining. Quite a bit of play for very little data. Its actually quite impressive how good they programmed this game for low data.
Terrible battery life on my S6E+. The battery saver mode does't work well for me either. I would walk around with the phone turned upside time to go into battery saving mode, but almost 30% of the time when I turn it over because there's a pokemon nearby (vibration), the game wouldn't detect any input (I can't click or move or zoom). The game is not frozen! I just can't click anything. I would have to restart the game everytime.
Yesterday we drove by a couple pokestops with Lure module attached, so we stopped for 20 mins to catch some Pokemon. That costed almost 30%+ battery life. Seriously considering buying a battery pack... but almost rather spend the money on incubators lol
I went for a walk in Prince's Island last night and I saw groups of 20-30 people running around in packs yelling and screaming haha.
Two things immediately came to mind:
1) with your screen, sound, and camera active 100% of the time, does this not just destroy your battery life? Most phones don't have replaceable batteries these days either so you probably can't play for very long.
2) How hard is it on data? Most people only have 1-2GB and they are going to be fully addicted to this game haha.
I also saw I guy holding up his phone pretending to take a picture of his daughter while his wife stood by "looking good honey", and I saw his phone screen and it had Pokemon on it
Everyone can just order this bad boy (Aug 31) so that we can save our batteries

A guy on my Facebook is going on and on about how this is a psyop being run by the illuminati/lizards/CIA for the purpose of collecting photos, and to get everyone in one place to spray them with chemtrails. So keep that in mind.
Maybe they can make picking up litter a reward in game, so all these Pokemon Go zombies are doing something actually useful.

Buggy-ness is pretty bad, and I never have the 'distance' change to nearby Pokemon. Always 3 feet, and then one will randomly show up that wasn't on the list of nearby... Hard to get a good one doing that
Yeah that started a couple days ago. Seems to be a server side glitch. Today is particularly bad for server lag. Rumours of some group trying to ddos the servers but they also rolled it out to 26 more small European countries as well so could be a bit of both. day by day things keep getting better, just growing pains for now. The games exploded way more than anyone would've expectedQuote:
