I’m still struggling as to why they want to come back. Presumably currently quality of life in Arizona is better than Canada.
Health insurance runs out of they stay away, and they are too cheap to buy it down there. Thats the usual thing.
Are you talking about deductibles or premiums?
I mean. Low low odds of $5k cost. Guaranteed $2k cost.
I’d take that deal.
$5g per person, elderly couple who breaks hips faster than light.
I can't blame them for whining to the media. Whining gets you everywhere in Canada.
Edit: I'm just basing these numbers off the plan I would have had if I accepted the job in 2014, Seattle area. No idea what's it is for Arizona and people twice my age.
It's not just the cost but the duration of the insurance available. Most providers set a limit to the amount of time for coverage over one stint. I cannot imagine they are there yet, it's typically around 6 months but will vary from person to person.
I remember last year when they even just spoke lightly about closing the border most people came back to Canada immediately including my parents. Fuck these people that traveled and chose not to come home after travel restrictions from our country have changed so many times. You knew there would be risks.
Here's an example of snowbirds feeling the pain of dealing with their choices

Good thing they saved a couple hundred bucks on those flights.
Probably already mentioned, but I don’t get the logic to our governments restrictions on flight. They ban all Canadian flights to the Caribbean & Mexico but allow flights to Europe, Asia & Africa.
Also all American Airlines still allowed to fly to sun destinations from Canada to Mexico & the Caribbean.
Am I missing something?
