I love the look at the area under the curve comment, but look how nicely the torque climbs in the M that is exactly what you want on the track. Sure the 335 feels faster from a dig but it isn't.
That is what I hate about M cars. They are peaky like Hondas. My e46 M3 feels anemic compared to my 335. They are probably the same in terms of straight line speed, but the offline the line torque is somewhat more rewarding.
