Can a cop tell when someone jams there signal?
Can a cop tell when someone jams there signal?
Their Laser signal, yes. Gun will have an error message (or equivalent) and they won't be able to get a speed reading.Quote:

Jamming their radar, no idea. That's illegal AFAIK.
My understanding is they do get a jam reading, however last time I read the manual for that Lidar gun though, a jam reading simply indicates a strong light source, and can also occur due to headlights, or the sun, and does not necessarily mean someone is using a jammer.Quote:

As far as I know there is no way for them to prove without a doubt you had your jammer turned on, even if you have one installed, because they could of caught the sun or hit your headlights.
Things may have changed though - I haven't needed to research speeding ticket defense since I got a civic
Seems to me that as long as you had your headlights on, there would be no way to prove 100% for sure that you had your jammer turned on, even though you probably did.Quote:
The JAM Indicator
If your instrument is configured for it, the JAM indicator on the back panel screen may blink
during a measurement accompanied by the JAM tone. It indicates that the instrument is being
flooded by light and has had difficulty detecting its own signal.
It means one of two things. Either you are targeting a strong light source such as headlights or
a targeted vehicle is employing a LASER-Jamming device.
Regardless of the level of interference you will never get an erroneous speed-reading. At a low
level of interference you will get a good speed reading even though the JAM tone sounds and
the indicator blinks. At a high level of interference you will get an E07 error condition.
Line
As for the obstruction thing, I don't believe you can obstruct unless you are aware you are obstructing, and it's not illegal to have a jammer installed, so unless there are warnings about an upcoming speed trap, and you left it on, I have no idea how that charge would stick. I'm sure they could still make your life miserable though, tow your car, etc.
Cool thanks for the feedback, I was leaning towards the Blinder myself but the Escort Shifter would be nice as it would work well with my Escort Passport 9500xi.Quote:

ZR4 shifters came with my new car, let me down last year though. First ticket in a long time, clocked 15 over; laser trap in city limits. Read a lot of lackluster reviews online as well.
Have since upgraded to the Laser Interceptors OP referred to, late last year so havent had a chance to see how they hold up. Lots of good reviews online though.
Never had any questions or issues from cops all the times they did work, or the one time it failed me. I'm not ripping around like a madman though and dont have any other visible targets to pick on like tint, or loud exhaust etc.
 Thanks for the info.Quote:

I beleive most of the jammers can be set up to auto shut off after one or two jamming events so you don't even need to remember to turn it off.
Depends on the gun/jammer matchup. The blinder M27 will not cause a jam code to be thrown on an LTI 20/20 (and other LTI models).Quote:

Comparing base models I'd rank them as below (although I havent had much seat time with the LI setup yet, most reviews seem to concur)Quote:

Laser Interceptor > Blinder > ZR4
the integration factor isnt worth it for the ZR4 IMO. For me because they were already installed and have a rear facing sensor I Just relocated and blocked the front emitters leaving the rear still functional and installed the front facing LI setup to take over front laser duty.
I believe the Blinder and ZR4 setups are LED based and the LI is Laser diode based, giving a stronger output over the LED systems. Your car color should also factor in to your decision a bit. I've got a bright colored, 'reflective' car and the ZR4 didnt seem to have the power/coverage to do it's job properly; hence the upgrade to a more powerful emitter (hopefully in theory).

hmmm I haven't heard much about the LI's gona have to do some research. In all my years of driving I've only ever seen laser being shot at the back of a car once (just after the wildlife crosssing bridge in Banff National Park) so I think just a dual front sensor is sufficient. My car is black with black headlights so they don't have much reflective area to shoot at anyways ;)
Interesting article out of South Africa. They are starting to see laser based collision avoidance systems jamming lidar...maybe in 5 years police won't be able to use lidar anymore :nut:
