Halo saves the day again. When was the last rollover?
I don't think the universe wants us to complete this race.
Ffs, so who's next?
Everybody better stay away from Kvyat. lol
Perhaps that's how he plans to win...by taking everyone out one by one.
Bad for RP, but great results for McLaren! Solid 3rd in WCC.
I am a die hard Lewis fan through and through, but strike me down where I stand if my heart doesn't hurt for Seb. He really is a fantastic character and I really hope AM gives him the drive and support he deserves.
Heck of a race.
Was not expecting a crash like that... holy fuck he’s lucky he pulled himself out. Not sure the safety guys would have been able to do anything. Couldn’t even tell where he was at first. Just a pile of wreckage and fireball.
I understand more marshals are not fire fighters, but the one guy who was barely spraying anything, seemed kind of silly. He was making 0 impact on the fire as he had nothing spraying, and was too far away. Surprised it took the safety car to arrive before any extinguishing took place, almost like they gave up and presumed he was dead already.
Havent seen a firery crash like that in a LONG time. Goes to show how safe these cars are. And yes, I think wed be having a different discussion if Romain had been knocked unconscious and was still in the fire.
And the Perez fire wtf was the marshall doing running across the track like that? Norris could have easily hit him and it would have been Kylami 1977 all over again.
Grosjean posted a vid from the hospital : https://www.instagram.com/p/CIL-IOZJ..._web_copy_link
Lucky for him it happened first lap, if the medical car wasn’t there he might have been in the fire a little longer.
The Halo has proved its worth. Big time. That crash was insane, seeing his car after cleaved right in half, and the front end in the fireball...the safety systems and designs are incredible. Still, I'll wage Grosjean is thanking his lucky stars.
I can't help but think about Ayrton Senna's death. His driving/etc is what got me into F1 as a kid, buying all the F1 games on the Commodore 64, Amiga, and early PC. The halo cockpit would have saved Senna's life, I have no doubt that the goofy looking thing would have taken the hit from the tire instead of it killing Senna.
Agreed. Also, if you watch when Grosjean was trying to climb out of the barrier to escape the fire, we was very wobbly (for obvious reasons), and the marshal that was closest was barely assisting him. All he did was put his arm out and lightly touch Grosjean on the arm = ie afraid to close the distance, and get close enough that he could have provided some actual real support and help to a guy who just had a massive crash. There was a bit of fire on the ground on the "safe" side of the barrier, but it looks like the marshal could have moved in much closer looking at the vid closely.
As you said, they aren't firemen, but they also shouldn't be timid and afraid to engage in a situation as Grosjean's crash. Mistakes happen under stress, and that marshal absolutely made a mistake in addition to the marshals spraying the fire, IMO. It's probably me just being nitpicky, but had Groshean been more injured and fell backwards when jumping that rail, that marshal would be criticized quite a bit for not moving in and providing support to Grosjean as he was trying to jump the barrierl
