Can we have Putin annex apega?
Tech's who think this way, can all blow me. Like in a big, long, train-line of blowing.
I oversee the team's work and I see everything for rates, so if you senior twat-munchers want a piece of the stamping and the horse shit, I'm going to adjust your charge out rates to save our budget.
"I don't think you can handle the pay cut" is my usual line.
Apega just announced another rate increase for next year.
Now a flat 500 for members...
Good racket if you can get into it I guess.
CPD is changing too.
Fun times ahead for all.
Fuck them. If my employer didn't pay it, I wouldn't maintain my standing.
Last year and now this year have been pretty big jumps as a percent in increased fees.
It's because they're important and keeping the Software Engineers from stamping building drawings.
Thank. God.
CPD is changing AGAIN? Better find some more useless classes to waste time in
They're moving out of the $$$ TD building in downtown Edmonton to one of the former Worley buildings on 51Ave "to save money" so it's great to see them passing the savings onto the members.
Maybe they'll move out of Bow Valley Square in Calgary and over to Forest Lawn to save* us even more money.
*that they'll use to hire PhD's who have worked zero days in industry but are somehow experts on stamping drawings, sweatshops and regulatory compliance...
I'm glad I never took that class.
To be fair it sounds like it’s Improving. Basically a straight honour system.
So basically click through an annual online. WHMIS equivalent and let chatgpt write yourself a competency evaluation. File it away and never look at it again.Quote:
licensed professionals will be required to complete five online learning modules each year (approximately 10 hours in total), and to follow their own Personal Annual Competency Evaluation (PACE) plan. Each licensed professional will create their own PACE plan and will continue to take responsibility for maintaining and enhancing their professional competence.
Regular reporting of CPD activities will no longer be required. However, licensed professionals must retain written records of their PACE plans, CPD activities, and learning module completions and provide them to APEGA’s Practice Review Board upon request.
Current system is dreadful.
I might just report 0 CPD this cycle because it’s not worth the effort.
Especially if it’s going away next year, I have enough banked to make it through the year lmao
Careful, you might get a threatening call from Dr. John Johnson, PhD, M.Eng, B.Eng., P.Eng
I have been far too honest with my CPD, so I don't have much banked.
I honestly have no recollection of what I've done for CPD in the past. I certainly haven't attended any external training or development. I don't do anything remotely close to engineering anymore. I've basically BS'ed my way through keeping my designation because work pays, and I'll continue to do so until the hoops get too tough to jump through. Fuck APEGA, they suck.
Yea but think of how much value it adds for your pimp to bill you out as AN ENGINEER!!!!!
What's everyones go to for online things to claim on CPD? Preferably free training / seminars.
Whoop Whoop - we got us a non-compliance over here - get 'em!

Glad the current system is on the way out, but not thrilled about this whole "PACE" development plan and whatever reporting might come of it.
