The only thing that's a bigger circle jerk than APEGA is the ring thing. Some locations (or camps or w/e) don't even let people without a ring view the ceremony

F those guys, seriously. They called me because I stopped paying and had "Wellsite Geologist" on my LinkedIn, threatening there could be fines if I didn't pay my fees or change my title.
But yeah apparently if your company doesn't care, I wouldn't pay. I still pay because I cannot risk that even being a factor to not being hired.

...
My company just had to lay-off about 60 skilled labor. Still not the best economy for construction.
When people wear an iron ring I immediately make an assumption about them and it’s usually bang on haha.
Unfortunately true. But of 20 I know that are terrible, I could say 5 try to ask the right questions and/or know what they're doing quite well.
Even if you're young with less experience, that doesn't stop you from learning, asking, and not act like you know shit. Seen a few EITs that put some P.Engs with over 20 years experience to shame. But also a lot of shitty EITs too lol.
Also see a lot of shitty 5-10 year engineers who shouldn't be engineers at all.
It's the same with any letters behind your name. Lotsa clueless MBAs out there. I actually find engineers over about 35 are fine. It's the first decade and a bit out of university that most have the awful attitude.
I've had 10+ co-op, intern and new grad engineers work for me, and only one had a really bad attitude. Most were decent.
It's kind of like, you know how all the "less-than-stellar" doctors are "general practitioners"?
For engineers, a lot are project engineers or something
All about managing cost and schedule.
I'm just generalizing of course. There are good project engineers :P
People will always find a way to look down on the work and accomplishments of others. Says more about the people doing the judging than those being judged.
Devon USA to lay off 200.
