Gambling for ultra shitty odds? Where can I sign up!
Flames 50/05: 93k
Oilers 50/50: 3.25 million
Definitely both a hit lol
I did buy some for Oilers one, it goes to a good cause anyways.
I am more interested because I can buy without attending the game. I always buy about $20 worth at any game I attend. It's a rip-off but pales in comparison to the food and drink prices at games, let alone the tickets. "In for a penny, in for a pound" or whatever that saying is. Like Phexos said, it's charity like buying the pile of Stampede tickets that benefit Rotary Club.
Where’s the link?
If people like donating to charity so much, why not just do that?
And collect a tax receipt for your trouble.
I don't marth but are these odds better than 649?
But 649 winning odds are stuck at 1 in 14MM. Fuck...if only we had a TI-81 plus specialist on hand.
God remember when I used to argue about lottery odds and payout ratios with Mario? Seems like only yesterday.
Stampede lottery ticket packs had good value because you got a free grounds entry and a discount on rodeo tickets. Made the tickets feel like half price.
I had 70% in my head for some reason, but looks like it’s actually worse than that.

47% + 7% is the total payout, 47% going to the main pool determining standard payout, and 7% to the guaranteed payout pool.
So you are 1 in 14 million yes, but 46% is taken off the top. Not quite as bad as the 50% taken off the top for 50/50. But close.
Don’t need much of a calculator for this one.

Yea but how much is Mario skimming off the top. He’s the real genius.
Ok team. Let's put this in a PowerPoint (with at lease 50 pages of backup slides) and discuss over some expensed bevvies. Good work.
-Assistant to the EIT.
True. 50/50 odds are actually pretty good tbh.
The Oilers 50/50 is 200 tickets for 50$ (lets assume everyone buys the best value option). 3.25 million = 65,000 people buying the largest packs. So you have a 1/65,000 chance of winning 1.6125 million dollars which is significantly better than the 649 odds. (I don't use the 200 because if everyone has 200 tickets then its a wash)
Plus if you factor in people buying the smaller ticket packs its actually less tickets for $ which means the real odds are better than 1/65,000
Oh marth. Never change.
People seem to forget that only 1/2 the money goes a good cause. The other half goes to a degenerate gambler lol. Of the good half that goes to charity take another chunk out for administrative costs so a tiny fraction of your money is going to a good cause. If you want to donate money to a charity just donate it directly.
Didn't even know this was a thing until this morning's news. Thought the attention from the prize amount last night would cause a buying frenzy, but tonights is sitting at only $28k so far.
This is really not that complicated people.
Donate to charity: 125% of your money goes to a charity (after factoring in money back from tax receipt at a 20% average marginal rate)
Buy 50/50: 50% of your money goes to a charity, plus an expected value of 50% of your money back from winnings
Buy Lotto ticket: Voluntary payment of 30% of your money to the government, plus an expected value of of ~54% of your money back in winnings depending on your particular flavour of ticket.
Voluntary Overpayment of Taxes: Just overpay your taxes and give 100% of the amount to the government
If you want to give money to charity or the government, 50/50 and lottery tickets are pretty shitty ways to accomplish that. Just cut checks directly if that’s your prerogative.
Best option is just donate to charity, it’s costs you the least and takes away money from the government to boot. Win Win Win.
As for casinos, at least the games are fun and payouts are usually north of 90%. Small Fee as cost for entertainment.
Ok but what about the guy who won the lottery and is professionally retired?
Also, all monies paid to degenerate gamblers go back into the economy. Those Trackhawks and Fits aren't going to buy themselves.
Money multiplier c-c-c-combo man.
