I ran this old shitter out to Swift Current and back, a little over 400km round trip. 1992 C2500 with 230,000km on it, 454, 4.10:1 rear end, 2500rpm at 110km/hr. Everybody talks about these old big blocks getting single digit mpg. Would you believe this thing gets 16mpg on the highway? It's awful in every aspect but at least it won't break you at the gas station.

OD is key. My 3-speed 460 got 11mpg. Highway. City. Towing. Full bed. Empty bed.
Didn't matter. Always 11mpg, lol.
Fourfiftyfour is best fifty-four. Approved!
Yeah it must make a pile of difference. I should try a highway run in 3rd gear sometime to see how it compares. 3rd gear at 110-115 is 3300rpm so it should be thirstier.
The point of buying this truck was to pull the motor and transmission and swap it into my squarebody. Hopefully this year I can get that done.
If I've learned anything it's that you should always go big block. No downsides, only upsides.
The radio cranks too.

What is 16mpg in a unit of measurement that would be understood by anyone who started school after 1970 in this country?
About 16l / 100km.
Did a thing, I think it looks better.

Looks better for sure
Agreed, closed trunk is better.
