Just noticed Sony FE lenses are on sale right now. TCS has the 55mm 1.8 for $779, that's $220ish off. Smoking deal with the dollar the way it is.
35mm 2.8 and 16-35mm f4 are both a few hundred off too.
damn that is a smoking deal considering that they are going for ~725 US$ used, you could buy one and re-sell it for $750 BNIB but profit is very small, around 50-70$ after shipping fees
the 55mm is such a sweet lens, if only it wasn't that big
although it's not overly big compared to my CV 50 1.5
If you leave the hood off it's not that big, and it's light too.
I ordered a "Slide" strap from Peak Designs (Link) and they offer free shipping for Canada. I was surprised to see it actually shipped from Canada, so no clearing customs or extra fees.
Awesome strap btw, one of the best I've ever used, especially for heavier cameras.
Think they'd support the 500mm?
yeah, for the size it's surprisingly light.Quote:

55 + 28 would be a nice travel combo for sure
i have the leash and it's awesome for smaller cameras, feels like cutting through your body with a heavier camera so might check this out!Quote:

which heavy camera have you tested wit it? 645Z?
I think so, the connectors would be the weakest part, but no weaker than a normal strap IMO. Strap would be singinficantly wider/more comfortable than a stock Nikon strap.Quote:

Yup, 645Z with an of the lenses I own and it feels great. I agree my Leash straps felt like piano wire with a heavy camera. :rofl:Quote:

That is exactly what I was thinking today. But what am I going to do with my FE 35?Quote:

I just pre-ordered the Sony 28/2 FE from TCS, hoping to get one before my trip next month.
Just got the email that it's waiting for me, they just got the first shipment of them!
Woo, that's good news. Too tempting. Did you get a wide converter to go with it?Quote:

I want to test out the wide angle converter first, and I didn't have time on the way home. If it looks decent I'll probably grab one. I hope the little lens hood on it is removable as I'd like to have the option to use square filters on it.
First impression the lens is really good. Huge distortion if it's uncorrected, sharpness seems good at f2 and AF is reasonable quick.
Mark, how's the 85/1.8 so far?
It's pretty awesome. I have a week left to play with it in case I want to return it. It is stunningly sharp, even at F1.8 and at distance. Definitely better than the 50/1.8, but that was expected. The lens required AF fine tune of +7 under very warm lighting, which is the first time I have ever had to AF fine tune a lens, but apparently not abnormal from what I read regarding light temps. Not sure how I feel about that, but since it's such a small adjustment, and it works at all subject distances, I don't see a reason not to keep it. I would be very surprised if the 85 isn't the sharpest of all the 1.8G primes, and it happens to be the cheapest next to the 50mm.Quote:

My only complaint is the lack of VR. At least for me personally, I really need VR in the 85mm range. I need at least 1/200 to counteract my shaky hands unless I have some kind of support, which makes it less useful (for me) in really low light where I plan to use it sometimes. At $469 though it's a no-brainer. Pretty hard to complain at that price, but I wouldn't even think twice about paying $1,000 for the same lens if it had VR.
I mostly bought it because I have a niece now, and along with my friends, babies are popping up everywhere, so I will be taking more people pictures than I'm used to for sure.
My new travel kit might be the 16-35/4 + the 85/1.8 when I don't feel like carrying a 70-200/2.8 which probably weighs more than both other lenses + my D810 combined haha.
In other news, the Coolpix A is down to $329 in the USA which is so damn cheap. I am so pissed that our dollar is as weak as it is!!! Still costs around $450 CAD landed after shipping, and they are only $499 in Canada.
I also want an L-bracket, and they all come out of the USA, so all the good ones are $200+ CAD which blows.
Anyone know of any good deals on memory right now? Doesn't matter if it's CF, SD, or micro SD or that it's super fast since it's just for music. Looking for 64gb cards right now.
Just doing the usual rounds and so far I'm just seeing these right now.
http://www.ncix.com/detail/adata-pre...82723-1202.htm
http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/reviews/...6bb6ae62afen21
Mitsu, I KNOW you know a good deal so don't hold out on me
Do you care if it's a brand name?
There are these for $10.99 but I wouldn't put any data I cared about on it haha. I guess for $10 who cares (WTF the price went up after I posted???)
http://www.amazon.ca/Micro-Class-Ada...=64gb+micro+sd
Or these sold directly from Amazon for $19.85 so they would at least be easily returnable if they died right away:
http://www.amazon.ca/Starker2014-Cla...=64gb+micro+sd
http://www.amazon.ca/microSDHC-Class...=64gb+micro+sd
If you want a brand name, I can't find anything better than the $29.99 Lexar you posted. Amazon has the same deal:
http://www.amazon.ca/Lexar-Platinum-...ywords=64gb+sd
I don't really care if it's brand name, just as long as it's reliable cause it's going into an iPod and I don't want to keep cracking it open to pull out a flaked out card. Since none of those first three have any reviews, I'll skip those. I just saw that Lexar deal right after I posted too. I have a $40 credit with Amazon so I think that might be the deal haha
The Lexar 128 GB version is only $3 more than two 64 GB cards.
I'm really hoping a 64gb CF card deal comes up!
I'm in Texas next week if you want to save on shipping.
I have two ipods to mod hahaQuote:

Thanks, but with the shitty exchange rate, I'd probably end up paying more anyways hahaQuote:

Lexar 64GB for $30 seems like a pretty good deal, London Drugs has SD cards on sale from time to time as well but I'm pretty sure it will go for the same price
You could gamble and buy these for under $20 on Amazon
http://www.amazon.ca/microSDHC-Class...s=64GB+SD+card
http://www.amazon.ca/Starker2014-Cla...s=64GB+SD+card
How fast do you need? I still have (2) Sandisk 64GB Extreme Plus cards in box I picked up near Christmas for a really good deal from London Drugs if you want them. I checked my invoice and was $134.33 for both
Thanks Matt, but I'll probably just go with those cheap Lexar cards from Amazon.Quote:

Some fairly good deals on fast Lexar memory cards here (by good I mean not even as cheap as the everyday price in the USA, but way better than usual for Canada):
http://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_nos...k%3Alexar+card
Also if anyone is wondering, the Amazon Prime Day deals were an absolute joke across the board.
Canadian prices on memory cards sucks so much. Oi...the two pack of 64gb 1066x cf cards is 199 at bh. $321 on sale on that link.
Yup, it's been that way for as long as I can remember. It was even worse before especially with the higher GB cards. A 64GB card a few years ago was like $500 in Canada and $150 in the USA. Even now it's still about double.Quote:

I was hoping for better so that I could load up before Abbotsford, but no.
I've been wanting to move up card speeds but its nutty how expensive stuff is up here!
That's actually a pretty good price on the lexar 64s from bh. Shame about the exchange rate, but such is life.
Yeah agreed. NYC is going to be expensive  At least I'll stop in at B&H and play with the all toys lol.
The Sandisk exteme pro (95mb/s) 64 GB cards are $60 each at BH, I grabbed a 2 pack for $79.99 a few months ago.
every time these sales come up I get as far as adding a two pack of the 128gb cards to my cart and then back out...I don't know why.
ordered a spare battery for an older camera, then threw in a Sandisk 32GB CF, and then also added that J1 underwater housing... i'm not even planning to go diving O.oQuote:

this thread is bad influence
I bought a J1 housing and I didn't own a J1 or dive.
Before you go, pop into some of the hotels around NYC and check those racks with all the pamphlets for tourists and see if you can find a B&H pamphlet that says you get a free gift. I was in NYC a couple years back and wondered into a hotel to mooch the free wifi and get out of the heat and found one so I brought it with me to B&H and got like a little backpack hahaQuote:

When I was there last fall the free gift was your choice of a t-shirt of a tote bag.
Done deal :D
And  at Ryan's GAS
I bought a J1 afterwards, but I haven't learned how to swim yet.Quote:

About that dive housing, does anybody else find this odd?

^^ Not sure if it's the reason or not, but Nikon doesn't allow all of their stuff to be sold across boarders.
I know Nikon batteries cannot be shipped to Canada if purchased from Amazon.com. Whereas, B&H or other camera stores seemed to be willing to do so. Also maybe it has to do with their warranty as well.Quote:

TWO-Pack of Lexar Professional 64 GB 1000X 150MB/s SD cards for $69:
http://www.amazon.ca/Lexar-Professio...=lexar+sd+card
That's a good deal. They cost more than that for just a single card at TCS.
Great J4 deal, even with the exchange, especially if someone wants an exceptional underwater camera:
Nikon J4 Refurb
10-30 VR Lens
Nikon WP-N3 waterproof housing
$229 USD

Vistek has some great deals on their Fuji XF lens. I would have loved these deals if I purchased my lens a few weeks later.
https://www.vistek.ca/results/Camera...ji/Lenses.aspx
It's a nation wide thing, The Camera Store and Henry's have the same pricing. Some sweet deals, that's for sure
Yup, it's North America - wide, no need to give Vistek your business

I'm in NY those days, can someone dig through the pentax medium format box and buy all the 645 Lens hoods for me?
What was their shipping crate sale? I think it was like their sale last year when Earl got his darkroom stuff. TCS staff just said they were clearing up stuff that was taking up space.Quote:

I'll stop by TCS one of these day and see if they can tell me what will be on sale
There were extra's last year when I left, that's all I know. They were $2 each or something. No big deal if you don't see them, My 120 macro lens hood just looks like it was melted in an oven for some reason :dunno:Quote:

Last year they had one of those shipping crates in their parking lot and it was full of stuff for the sale, but I don't think the sale ended up being very good.
HyperDrive is having a sale for some of their storage drives.
http://www.hypershop.com/HYPER10
http://www.hypershop.com/HyperDrive/iUSBportHD/ is US$60 off
not blazingly fast as the UDMA2 drives for backup but cheaper and can be also used as portable storage media
Sorry man, I asked and they had nothing. Just the universal hoods, no OEM.Quote:

GAH...every time one of these sales comes up I say that I should finally order one...now they've made it worse.
For the brain trust...metal or acrylic?
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7663/...b921a565_b.jpg

It's either that one, or I have a similar one of the raptor.
Acrylic
I've never liked their metal prints, I'll only do those from 44wide or Mpix
Metal prints only look good when they are first coated in high gloss white IMHO. Otherwise they make most things look dull and dingy (which might be what you want) but doesn't suit most prints. I'm waiting for a Canadian company to get that method but I think I am SOL.
If the sun doesn't have enough color density the metal from the backing will show through and make the sun look like aluminum.Quote:

Nice. Have you used them for anything else?
