They couldn't have picked a better colour? Green? And not even a nicer green? SHAME!!!!!!
Bump.
I am looking for a wagon and came across a 2012 Golf TDI with 94k KM’s and 2011 Bmw 328 touring with 98k KMs. No experience with VW’s but have owned older BMW’s before so I have a good idea what repair is like. Should I consider other models? Other wagons I was hoping for are Subaru’s or even a Volvo’s, but it looks like those cars are a lot older or above my price range. Looking to spend about $12-15k.
VW has the big advantage of being a high-volume vehicle, so parts should be easy to find and probably cheaper. I love that TDI motor.
Europe is spoiled for choice with tons of Estate/Touring options, including from Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Golf, Opel, BMW, MB, Audi, Volvo, etc. Sucks more estate cars and Aussie style Utes aren't available in North America. They're so protective of their gas guzzling SUV/Truck segment.
I'm considering a Passat Variant so we can sleep in the back on mountain/beach trips. 3.7L/100km on the 2.0L Diesel.
If I was in Canada I'd probably consider a Subaru or Volvo.
The diesel game is over - and this is coming from a diesel lover. Newer 'Cheater' TDI's aren't the same robust powerplants of the early-mid 2000's. The ALH and some PD motors were absolutely bulletproof, but I wouldn't mess with newer TDI's. All types of problems in cold weather, retro-fitted emissions systems and retunes that neuter the motor.
Plus, regular gas is 57c at costco, compared to diesel which is probably somewhere around 90c. Diesel is usually 10-20% more expensive in the past couple years.
If you're looking for a wagon, a 2019 Golf Sportwagen 4motion w/ DSG or 6-speed is the choice. You can find them for $20k with under 30,000kms. I've seen this one a few times around town, I think the green looks awesome:

That does look nice, I just did a quick search and they seem pretty rare or way out of my price range.
I rented one of those Golf Sportwagon’s last month. It was easily the best rental car I’ve ever had. I would own one, fore sure.
This sale set a new bar for V wagons, sold for $89,500 USD

That car was driven less than some exotics.
How is the interior symmetry? I can't stand pointy elbows.
Edit: Shifter is off center. Do not want.
