I think we pay a neighbor kid anywhere between 15 and 20/h. Some times more depending on how much I drink before we returen....also, on having family watch your kids. We will not let my father watch them anymore. Up at the water park at West Ed, we had him and his wife watch the 2 of them for like 30min. When we returned, our oldest 4 at the time was nowhere to be seen. Found him over at the side of the wave pool. Wife was PISSED. I wasn't pleased

Typical going rate for a babysitter is $16/hr. You can get cheaper with younger teenagers, down to $10-12/hr. I know some people paying $24-30/hr for a babysitter.
We don't have child care any more, kids go to the school where my spouse works. Daycare was $900/month before, dropped down to $500 when subsidy came in for last few months of it, not-for-profit daycare.
On the topic of babysitting, the hardest part is finding someone you are comfortable with.
Mine are old enough not to need it now. Which is nice for occasional date nights etc.

I was referring to babysitting and not day care. What does the typical teenage neighbour charge to watch kids for a few hours at night so you and the wife can grab a bite to eat kind of thing.
We have typically relied on my MIL or my sister for 99% of child watching, but my boys are at an age where we can leave them with a baby sitter and not have to worry. We also don't want to rely on family every time.
One girl replied saying $28 an hour which I thought was absurd. I've seen others at $15 which is much more palatable.
I’d say anything under $20/hr seems reasonable considering you would presumably want to see certifications ( first aid, babysitting course? I dunno ).
More than that and you might as well hire a professional nanny service or something.
min wage if it's someone over about 16, a kid from the neighborhood, maybe eight buck per kid or something? I dunno.
$15/hour is what we've paid.
Previously it was a neighbors kid who we knew for a few years before services were required. Unfortunately she grew up, turned 19 and moved downtown. Now we have access to another one, who is our dayhome providers 14yo daughter. I think she wants $15 as well, but we haven't needed her yet.

$1200 per kid is actually really reasonable especially if they are under 2 years old (24 months, 96 weeks for those beyonders who deal in weeks), and not bad if they are older than that. My wife has an arrangement with her work wherein she can work when I'm not out on the road, so long as she manages 4hrs per month. Keeps her sanity (and the staff discount).
Stay at home parent isn't a great choice for everyone.

Does anyone have any part time nanny recommendations around Mahogany? We had one but moving to Mahogany (currently in West area) and the travel isn't ideal for her.
