I did 1000 and 2000 grit wet sand before compounding but the result didn't have much of an impact.

I am not sure if adding 5000 would achieve better results.

So I did something stupid. I dry sanded parts of my car with 400 grit sand paper to remove some spots on the clearcoat and the result is the picture below. I tried to fix with compound but that didnt...
