Oops, my time estimates were for a pro detailer. For DIY/first timer you can easily double the time so ~20 hours to everything properly. Plus whatever it costs to buy tools, equipment, etc.

Applying coating is not that time consuming, most of the time will be spent on prep.

Typical job is:
1-2 hours for washing/decontamination/etc
4-6 hours of polishing
1 hour per coat

Alpine told me the head gasket on my W124 was leaking. Took it to another shop and they found it was just a coolant leak from a heater hose. It's always good to get a second opinion.
