It should be noted that the 17-85 is not a very sharp lens at all. The corners are incredibly soft and so is the center performance.

Read some reviews and they confirm the 17-85's poor sharpness....

Thanks Earl, yeah I agree it kind of does. The focal point was set on the distant mountain and I think a larger aperture would've made the foreground less distracting.
