This is the detonation pitting you might see, but like I said cast pistons are so fragile sometimes they just bust lands...

What do the piston tops look like? The failure looks like a detonation one and not a ring gap one, and even though boost and timing were mild, could be something as stupid as bad gas.

What part of the pistons broke? In my experience, the two types of ring land failures are pretty distinct. End gap too tight (especially on the top ring) will lift the top land off.

Ethanol is magic so you can get away with no ic, and if you're just running 1/8 then IATs dont have as long of a chance to climb. Intercooled is always better though. :D
