    Default Watch modding anyone?

Been tempted on building my ideal watch as I'm never really happy with current offerings within the 500-1000$ watch range.

I have a Seiko SNZG13 on its way and also bought a SRP031 dial to replace the stock SNZG13 as I find it too crowded for my taste.
Debating doing it myself or just bring it to Kongs Watch

Thinking a basic watch kit repair kit is a good started, will I also need a press set as well?
If I buy a kit, I might go to a pawn shop and buy a beater Seiko 5 to practice with

Curious to hear if anyone else here have experience opening a watch up and replacing the dial or hands.

I considered it, but after looking at the watches I liked and the mods available for them, there just wasn't anything that interested me.

I dknt have the know how to do this kind of thing, but it seems really interesting to me. I have a family friend that had a family member that was a watch maker and so he has all of his old Rolex inside parts and I was thinking of asking him about getting some of those parts from him. He's got thousands of parts.

Make sure you have all the proper tools... I have yet to get a watch back together without damage when improvising the tools. Especially replacing hands... the post for the second hand is so fragile

I have this kit. It’s decent. There are hand removal tools on amazon too. If you look in the top of my pic above you’ll see a hand removal tool and a hand install tool.

cool, thanks man! ordered a hand remover/presser kit as well

I was initially planning on getting a Sinn or Ranger look but I' was not a big fan of a sterile dial look.

Will be replacing the hands on my Tiger 1016 as well as I find the hand lumes not lasting all night.

Buy two sets of hands and watch YouTube tutorials until you get the hang of putting hands on.

Cheap vintage Seiko 5 and new dial came in, after a quick test run opening the old watch and removing the hands, I felt ready working on the SNZG13 but I was so wrong.
Bent the hands a little so I had to straighten them out and putting the seconds hand back was a PITA.
Not looking forward opening the watch again to put the new hands that I ordered.

At least the new dial is in and looks great!

Cool. It takes practice. I can’t wait to get started on mine. The bezel came in. Waiting on everything else. I’ll post a step by step.

This was a 1950 Hamilton 917 movement bronzo case. I ended up having to make the hands fit by pressing in tiny brass tubes. I like the way it came out.

^that's a nice bronze case and movement, any pics of the front?
can you work with movements too?

next mod will be the old SNZG07 with white sunburst dial on brown leather strap

    later on I would like a SNZF17 with 3-6-9 dial(probably from a SRPA71-75), sort of a SPORK look.

I did it the easy (and expensive) way haha.

It's too bad you can't get a custom Hublot like this anymore without blowing well over 6 figures anymore.

I wanted to open it up and re-do the hands but why mess with it. It works. The crystal is plexi and not glass. Kind of went with a retro look.

lol I remember you posting about that years ago, definitely the easiest and baller way to do it.
with the benefit of being covered by their warranty too.

Here are a few SKX's that I've done.

This was my first mod ever, learned a lot from it.
Stock 7S26, changed the dial, hands, ceramic bezel insert, brushed steel chapter ring, double domed sapphire crystal and strap.

Did this one as a gift for my girlfriend, had the dial custom made in Asia, brushed steel chapter ring, hands, ceramic bezel insert, double domed sapphire crystal and strap.

This one is the most in depth mod I've done so far.
NE15 movement swap, SARB059 signed crown, flat sapphire crystal in OEM spec, ceramic bezel insert with the OEM SKX font, dial out of an SKX171 with applied markers, hands out of an SKX171.
This was essentially my version of the "Ultimate SKX" all in OEM spec.
