It means nothing, effectively. It backs us out of an eventual $10/tonne carbon tax increase in two years, which will probably be foisted upon us anyway if they manage to get the project going again between now and then - plus Notley will be out of office by then, so it's a cost-free statement for her to make.
The federal government has the legal authority to impose a carbon tax that does not at least meet their required targets so it doesn't matter if the project gets back on track or not.

    That remains to be seen.

And it certainly won't have the ability to if the liberals get voted out.

Indigenous communities suddenly have a pipeline proposal after years of wanting to "protect their heritage lands and environment".
So their arguements against Trans Mountain P/L are suddenly null and their true reasons are coming forth.

Look on the brightside. A longer route means more construction jobs and more maintenance jobs, which helps with the economic benefit argument.

    Zig zag all the pipelines!

Did they properly consult with LIDAR services or any Survey company?
My guess is that they have routed it to hit every Reservation along the way to the coast.

or environmental consulting company. let's go ram it through Caribou habitat and as many river crossings as possible.

Yep, as mentioned earlier, nothing to do with the environment, everything to do with greedy natives.

    Yawn, what a tiring narrative.

This is the inevitable outcome of a country where the law enshrines privilege based on racial status/genetics.

You guys haven't heard of the Eagle Spirit pipeline? I've known about it for years.

Can decide if this is genius or insane, maybe both, but apparently the Fed are considering gifting some or all of the ownership in the trans mountain pipeline to the natives. (according to the Toronto Sun)

A good example is how the protest at Clayoquot Sound shut down the logging there. It was a massive fuck-fest of hippies and Greenpeace mother fuckers, all over the news and a huge lightning rod issue in BC. The government resolved it by making some of it a park, and giving a huge amount to the indigenous people in the area. Environmentalists all had a big disgusting circle jerk orgy and called it a huge win. What rarely seems to make the news is that the indigenous stewards started up their own logging operations.
It was a big stupid fest back in the 90s, but the green movement did have a point in some regards regarding CLEAR CUT logging. It was really destroying the area because so much biomass was removed and the steep terrain then started to give way, nullifying reforesting efforts.

Are the FN groups at least sticking to selective logging practices now?

What they told you clear cutting is like having a fire? LOL.

Im certainly no forest engineer, but clear cutting and fire damaged forest are the same in very little ways. In a clear cut, the biggest, oldest trees are (also) removed and in a fire, the biggest trees generally survive (unless a very serious crown fire has happened).

I've worked in the bush as a (former) land surveyor in clear cut and fire damaged forest (after the Slave Lake fires about 10 years ago) and the two are very different. I've also worked in and around Port Alberni logging industry and one of those jobs was helping deactivate roads.

Selective logging is more expensive, but for the old growth, high value trees, it does work.

It looks to me like FN doesn't have proper consultations within their own.
