With phone number posted. I texted her to see if she can show it this week. Will update if she gets back.
They don't even bother to list the model - just "rocky mountain bike". For sure stolen.

I guess you need to know the serial number though before you ride off with it, just so you don't become a thief too haha.

Found her escort ad thing via reverse phone number look up:

    https://escortindex.com/ad/calgary/4.../5/1686941/ter

Maybe hit her up for some tricks at her place instead and jack the bike back. She also has a bunch of diffferent numbers listed.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

Hopefully you have some insurance alternative available. Pretty nice bike too.

I store my bike in my living room and take extreme measures to ensure its not stolen when its not. Low life pos thieves these days come well equipped.

The shop may have a record of the number especially it's a higher end bike. It's unfortunate if the cop won't bother to doing anything.
How would you go and buy it back? Do you pay her directly or her pimp?

I would never buy it back - I would take it back. There is a 99% chance she does not have the bike. Fenced for drugs at least 10x now. Literally, the town bicycle. I do have insurance options both with my work and CC. Not touching homeowners policy

Shitting on the cops is not productive - they are usually busy dealing with the liberal hippy, catch-and-release justice system, repeat offenders.
The federal politicians are to blame for this, not the cops.

    You have a few options:

    - beyond meet with people at the location
    - use your CC purchase protection - usually 90 days.

Seems like this person is always selling "brand new" items https://www.letgo.com/en-ca/u/sylvia...d-0b8fffd2abd8

I never received a text back, my guess is she was bombarded and it threw up a red flag. Will update if anything changes, best of luck OP

Dunno if she was stupid enough to use her actual postal code on those ads, my guess is probably.

Postal code is a pretty small box.

One can also try the switch trick - inquire another item they have on sale but when onsite and with the person, ask about the bike

What else are they selling, though? Meth pipes and "BNIB" FleshLights?

"Geez, I gotta be honest with ya. I find it a little off putting that this supposedly brand new FleshLight has some sticky residue and a few goink hairs stuck in the flaps - say, is that a Rocky Mountain Instinct??!"

Appreciate all the help. Did a drive by on that block and there is a sketchy house with bikes out back. Unfortunately, not much I can do short of a door knock - which if i was 25 with nothing to lose I’d do it in a heartbeat. If anyone gets a response let me know. I got a “sold” response on day 2 and that’s it.

Yeah, the bike is now listed under the "sold" items on her letgo page... Very likely it will pop up again though.

What gives? You went from "I would love to vigilante crush some crack head" and "I would take it back" to the above?

Loving the idea of "vigilante crush some crack head" and actually doing it - with all of the associated risks and consequences - are two very different things.

FWIW, the OP is handling the situation about the way I would expect a mature, professional, contributing member of society to...

You&me is correct. Too much risk ie hurt the person, get laid up for assault for a bike which eventually, insurance will pay out. Big difference between catching the guy who did the deed, versus the crackhead who probably has it now too. Also, entering some strangers house doesn’t come without risk either. And for a bike, it’s not worth it.

If you show up with a beyond meetup (not to bust heads but as a show of force) you should be ok.

The people you are dealing with are usually not the ones who actually stole the bike in the first place.

The funny part of all this is if the OP actually did anything, THEN cps would do something, and he would likely get in far more trouble than the alleged thief, and still have no bike.

Petty crime is literally a free for all, at least in Calgary. It's neither punished nor investigated (and I realize they can't go investigating every little thing) so your only option really is to do something yourself or call your insurance company and your credit card company and get that process started. That really sucks man, I would be so mad.

So big talk and than not? Why bother with the big talk then? Mature, contributing members of society should have moved beyond big talk and they don't have to be professionals at the same time or are professionals the only people capable of this? At what point in one's life does one not need to portray one's self as a tough guy?
