Ok, is it true that the 2000/month coming from the feds will stack on top of the 1600/month from ei? I have heard this here and there but haven't seen a credible source to back it up. Also a "What am I eligible for?" thread in the finance section might be useful. I've been working my usual 45 hour work weeks throughout all this and haven't really had time to sit down and see exactly what's going on.
    Wtf is $1600/month about?

You pay into EI? $573/month max (if you make over $54,200) if you do not then you’re on the COVID relief payments... contractor/self employed, $900 bi-weekly. Can’t speak to the $2k thing that was announced yesterday yet as I haven’t seen the details... top priority for today though as this is basically what my job entails now (see if applicants are still working, if not see what they’re entitled to)

Edit: oh, well that’s easy... same, same as the $900 bi-weekly payments previously announced

I think its 1184$ immediate relief -> federal 2k/month (applications open in April) for 4 months -> regular EI for the remainder. People on EI do not qualify for the 2k/month, it's there to help until EI kicks in

I would not object to being reproactive in shaming them.
What you did there, I see it.

That’s the official stance for sure, but looks like due to the EI backlog you can do CERB instead of EI and have EI kick in after oct 3rd if still needed

Going into a conference call right now with the team though, so will see what our company stance will be while qualifying incomes

Don't you pee into a toilet with your partner at the same time?
I like to piss on her in the shower. Shower, toilet, same difference though right?

Already word of people getting that $1,146 Alberta emergency isolation fund payment today through e-transfer and some people abusing it. Classy.

Hope it bites those in the ass who are applying for it who aren't the audience it was meant for. I wonder how well the government is screening this? Jeez.
Can anyone just apply and get this? I'm going to try for it and spend the whole thing on this weeks 70 million Lotto Max.

When I went on it extremely briefly (3 months) in 2008 I got 800 biweekly so Im basing it on that. Also this says it maxes 573 a week not a month. None of this matters for me currently as Im working.

    Well balanced story:

"But there’s another, potentially even more serious problem: the way that deaths are recorded. If someone dies of a respiratory infection in the UK, the specific cause of the infection is not usually recorded, unless the illness is a rare ‘notifiable disease’. So the vast majority of respiratory deaths in the UK are recorded as bronchopneumonia, pneumonia, old age or a similar designation. We don’t really test for flu, or other seasonal infections. If the patient has, say, cancer, motor neurone disease or another serious disease, this will be recorded as the cause of death, even if the final illness was a respiratory infection. This means UK certifications normally under-record deaths due to respiratory infections.

Now look at what has happened since the emergence of Covid-19. The list of notifiable diseases has been updated. This list — as well as containing smallpox (which has been extinct for many years) and conditions such as anthrax, brucellosis, plague and rabies (which most UK doctors will never see in their entire careers) — has now been amended to include Covid-19. But not flu. That means every positive test for Covid-19 must be notified, in a way that it just would not be for flu or most other infections.

In the current climate, anyone with a positive test for Covid-19 will certainly be known to clinical staff looking after them: if any of these patients dies, staff will have to record the Covid-19 designation on the death certificate — contrary to usual practice for most infections of this kind. There is a big difference between Covid-19 causing death, and Covid-19 being found in someone who died of other causes. Making Covid-19 notifiable might give the appearance of it causing increasing numbers of deaths, whether this is true or not. It might appear far more of a killer than flu, simply because of the way deaths are recorded.

If we take drastic measures to reduce the incidence of Covid-19, it follows that the deaths will also go down. We risk being convinced that we have averted something that was never really going to be as severe as we feared. This unusual way of reporting Covid-19 deaths explains the clear finding that most of its victims have underlying conditions — and would normally be susceptible to other seasonal viruses, which are virtually never recorded as a specific cause of death."

I have relatives who do the "snowbird" thing and they have decided not to come back to Canada. Seems kind of crazy to me, but maybe a small community in Arizona is a relatively safe place to isolate?
