Hmmmm... are we starting to say that all this is a scam again? Or at the very least, extremely overblown?

From reading the /r/canada reddit thread on covid. It seems to me that alot of people are unprepared for not working, lots of people wondering how they will pay rent and eat on EI.

Tried to go to costco today (balzac).. massive lineup outside as it looks like they're limiting access. Didnt ask how many people (assume 15), but know i wasnt waiting for all the boomers to fill up on 900 cans of soup and 60 lbs of rice... prob 70 people in line

Like I've said, the earf was unlucky that Italy and Spain, two countries with shit tier medical care, a ton of old people, lots of smokers, and multi-generational households got hit early.

Serology will give us a much better picture. Odds are this thing started in December considering the R0 of the virus.

All the Costcos have limited access for a while now. I wish they could keep it like that because it was a very pleasant shopping experience.

A lot of people thought that this was an overreaction.

I think overblown is how I would lean. There is no denying what is happening, but the question of how one views the resulting ramifications is more relevant. Some people feel every single life is worth saving compared to saving the way of life of billions while others are the opposite. I guess it isn't really a lot different than an all out war. There comes a point in time when the populace decides some lives are worth sacrificing to preserve the way of life of the majority. The question is whether or not we are there yet or at what point will we be there or will we even get there? Tough to say but there is no doubt we are in the middle of it all.

Or maybe most people just live paycheque to paycheque.

Some people just don’t get money management or just have lived their entire lives paycheque to paycheque. My aunt and uncle are those kinds of people.

100%, this is exactly what the bank of Canada has been saying for several years, debt load too high, most people won't financially survive a situation just like this. It's literally been talked about for years.

Not enough people listened I guess?

We live in a society where someone can commit mass murders and rapes (which we all agree is wrong), and the worst thing that'll happen to them is we pay tax dollars to shelter them, feed them, educate them, and then release them so they can do it all over again.

The average wage in Canada is $55K. Considering how expensive housing is in Toronto and lower mainland BC (the two places that r/Canada's members mostly are from) is, that's barely survival wage.

Also it's Reddit so I'd wager the average wage for those people is significantly lower.

You would think people have never heard of rice and beans. You can take over half of Europe on a sack of each.

There is one ventilator, two people.
The first person is a 12-year-old with COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. The second person is 74 years old and has COVID-19, too, but he’s an infectious diseases doctor and an expert in vaccine development.

    Who do you save?
