IMHO until we get a true tier 1 goalie and get rid of all the second-line-at-best players like Monahan and Gaudreau, we will just keep doing what we do every year, which is go out in the first round of the playoffs (if we make it in) ensuring our draft picks are garbage. Not easy to be a Flames fan these days, there is just nothing to get excited about. There is nothing elite or impressive about the Flames IMO, compared to so many other teams in the NHL with superstars on their top lines and the size to not get bullied. But what do I know haha.

But who's the captain of this team going forward?
Chucky will be wearing the 'C' for this team for a long time. Ever since they drafted him he has been the consensus #1 choice to replace Gio as captain.

We lucked out with Chucky. All thanks to Columbus. That was a great draft.

I'm more thankful for Edmonton and Vancouver cause they passed up on a gem. Leading up to the draft, I was SO sure he was going to be gone by 3rd or 4th that I didn't even consider what he'd be like in a Flames jersey.

It's starting to seem an awful lot like Toronto or Vancouver in here. It's great to be a passionate fan but this really isn't an elite team and they've placed and done about as well as a they should have been expected to. Calgary is a decent team and they did decent. This isn't Washington or Pittsburgh stacked with trophy winners that are now playing golf wondering WtF just ran over them.
"Fire the coaches, waive the goalies and turf the top line!" should be left for Toronto fans who think every year the season will just be a formality and the league should start inscribing their names on the cup in October.
So when there are clear deficiencies with something, you think it is wise to stand by and hope it magically fixes itself and gets better next year? Poor performance year after year unfortunately means that what you have tried hasn't worked and changes must be made.

Facts: This duo of goaltenders will not be able to steal you a series. Johnny, Monny, Lindholm did not step up and push this team to a new level. We got out coached. Does that mean all three things must be immediately and hastily changed? No, but with these issues in mind and with a GM that is able to approach these issues methodically (look at what Sakic has done in Colorado) then some steps in the right direction are not too much to ask for.

The crazy part is that the team shut Seguin and Benn down last night, and got beat by old man Pavelski and that crazy russian rookie and his insane shot. The stars were literally a better version of the flames (No first line, all secondary scoring)

Strongly disagree, Calgary's problem is they structured their current team around Gadreau and Mony and those guys are not the type of people to carry a team when needed. Especially in the playoffs. There is no issues with the GM, the coach could very well change but that's still fallout from Peters.

You know why Crosby and Ovy are absolutely no question leaders? They have a boat load of natural talent (like Johnny) but their work ethic off the ice is unrivaled. That is something that cannot be said about the two Calgary players. And that is what makes a difference on the ice and in the room. Guys see how hard true leaders work to stay #1 and the people around them elevate their game as well.

Calgary's top line strikes me as the kind of guys who don't really care about the team or the cup now that they are set up for life financially from such a young age. TJ Brodie is another example of this, he has been garbage since his contract year which landed him a ton of cash. On some level I can't say I blame them, it would be hard to be motivated when your money is guaranteed whether you're on the bench or putting up 120pts a season. At the same time it sucks from a fan's point of view, and for any of the guys on the team who actually give a shit and want to win.

I wish Hockey contracts were performance based annually, with bonuses for various performance metrics relevant to the position/deployment. It's too easy for so many of these guys to just play well for one season, land a 5+ year deal and coast into retirement.

The sooner that fans in Calgary come to terms with the fact that a Lady Bing winner is not the same as Hart winner or an Art Ross winner, the better off the fans will be to adjust their expectations accordingly.

    He nails it.

    - Forwards dont block shots.
    - If Johnny blocked shots or played with any intensity others would buck up and buy in and play the same.
    - Defence also dont block enough shots.
    - Flames dont hate losing enough and dont want it enough.

Why would covid teach this guys anything?! They made a literal bubble for hundreds of guys.. if anything covid taught these guys they are worth more than mere millions
I meant that public can see more clearly how over paid these sports are and that life goes on without them.
I think the money is lost on these guys while others struggle on layoffs and CERB.
Quit buying tickets and this overpaid, playoff losing life goes away.

Doesn't feel much better this morning.....

Hahahaha, yup! Tried so hard to stay offline last night, but I had to check the score before I went to bed, then cried myself to sleep.

Watch hockey for entertainment but don't get invested in other people's successes and failures.
I should've added to my post, I am a fan, and I hate that they sucked in the play-off's (again) but I'll live, it is what it is.

Johnny needs to get serious about his conditioning. Eat a frickin broccoli once in a while.

Jonny and Monny are going to get moved, and then figure out the fitness and cocaine-less lifestyle and turn into stars.

I wonder what kind of training/conditioning the Flames have as opposed to other teams...they seem to get tired easily, either that or they really don't care that much.

I remember when the Canucks were peaking they had sleep doctors working with the players....

And if they really are cokeheads why isn't there a zero tolerance policy? Maybe we need more guys like Little Brother Dougie who go to museums instead of partying lol

The Dion didn't play for the Flames until after the lockout in 2005-06.

Also there are lots of rumours about Gaudreau and Monahans off ice activities, just like all the ex-players that slept with teammates wives. Doubt many are true.
