at this point the best reason for not opening it up seems to be because the shitty IT infrastructure cannot handle it. Nothing to do with vaccine supply.

There was no lineup for the ticket when I went yesterday at 9am.
It's the Disney FastPass system for vaccines. But ya, it's literally designed to disperse crowds. Be kinda stupid to have hundreds of people gathered closely together during a pandemic. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

That’s okay, once you’re inside you’re gathered together with hundreds of people.
I find it weird that they are doing so much walk in at all. Why not make those all appointments? . But I guess the demand is there, and it's easy to adjust if supply changes. Maybe that's the reasoning?

You mean Upper Canada? They do things properly, unlike Alberta. Just ask them. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
From what I've heard there's a lot of no-shows for the appointments so the walk-ins give them a chance to use up supply. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Negative. That was/is in the pharmacy booking system. That's how I filled into one on Saturday before this wave of AZ mass centers started. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

So we have cracked over 28% vaccinated in the province. Starting to get a decent “mass” of people with some immunity out there such that I’d expect things to start looking better on the cases front but the data suggests they really aren’t.
Seems like we have a bit of an unintended effect here where almost none of the cluster of the population actually getting sick these days have anyone in their circles (namely, young people) with any significant immunity in their groups.
To me, seems like a strong argument for a full on “open it up” scenario, where we start trying to get vaccinations in the arms of a more diverse cross section of the population and try and get transmission under control. To me, we are past the “vaccinate the vulnerable” stage ( the precipitous drop in deaths demonstrates that) and need to get to a more broad “herd immunity” goal to actually get cases and spread under control. Targeted vaccinations might actually be what’s prolonging this epidemic relative to, say, what’s going on in the US where cases are far more under control.
At least that’s my current uneducated thesis.

The younger people are generally the ones on the front lines and most at risk of exposure, the fact they are the back of the bus is ridiculous

Most exposure risk, least ICU/hospitalization risk. Which is supposedly the entire point of everything we've done to date. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I’m not trying to criticize the focus to date, but rather wondering if there is a better approach going forward that will actually lead to better outcomes.
If unvaccinated old people are still clogging up the ICU then this all becomes a difficult calculus to balance, I guess we just need to decide if we actually want this pandemic over sooner or take the lowest risk approach.

Nah it's all about cases now lol.
Thing is, since near as I can tell Bayes' Theorem has been tossed out the window, cases will always be high due to the high number of false positives.
Couple that with this thing having no unique symptoms whatsoever and any hope of lockdowns ending is near zero.
At least Alberta doesn't allow testing on asymptomatic people.

Well, a lot of those vaccinations were in the last week or so, and full benefit is 2 weeks from date of jab, so there's a lag there. But also, I think we've already seem the daily deaths tr3ending downwards, which could be attributed to the vaccinations of the elderly, or the fact that we killed a bunch of the most vulnerable, but either way, the remainder are less vulnerable to death at least. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. I predict they "open up" the vaccinations when the shipments of vaccines arrive, which is a little uncertain right now. lots scheduled, but when will they truly arrive?

Most people view scarcity as an indicator that something is popular - so I think making vaccines looks like the hot item to get will reduce vaccine hesitancy amongst the morons who are hesitant. Nightclubs figured that shit out a long time ago. Queues are good for bizness.
