My first degree was interesting, but not worth the paper it was printed on. My second degree was useful and a far better ROI.

I use information I learned during my degree everyday. Could I have learned it elsewhere? Sure. But without it I'd probably not had the opportunity.
Wait Zoo isn’t Zoology?
I'm surprised how many engineers I work with that couldn't change oil or fix anything simple around the house. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Completely book smart or excel formula junkies.
Why would you want an engineer to change your oil?

Engineers are the reason oil changes have become ridiculously messy.

That's better than the 90's Camry. Sideways filter directly above the exhaust manifold. It only caught on fire about 60% of the time but it was cool because the oily rag in your hand worked aces to put it out. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I think we have stumbled upon the thing I like best about engineering.
How salty it makes other people.

I'm just pissed people don't respect my BSc in Oil and Gas Engineering (with internship).
Although come to think of it, the only reason I got that one was because my grades weren't good enough to get any of my first several choices. So, there may be some legit grounds, but that just makes me more upset.

Don’t worry. I don’t respect you for so many other reasons.

I have a roll of tinfoil in my toolcase for situations with hot oil and tight header clearances. I guess oil jockey's get paid to clean up messes.

Really depends on what you do I guess.
I'd be happy to work at a job like that where I could learn everything on the job. I have a PMP with above target scoring. I tried really hard to transition to PM and even PC jobs, and not one interview. Evidently, I'm not doing it right.

Like anything this is a factor of luck involved, I am not cocky enough to think I am the greatest thing since sliced bread and that's why I have had some level of success (not quite beyond baller level but I've done okay for myself). I took chances, moved to different cities, accepted challenging roles outside of my comfort zone, networked and asked a lot of questions along the way. But luck was definitely a factor in some of the earlier doors that opened up for me, performance and work ethic covered the rest. The hardest thing sometimes is getting that initial opportunity. Good luck with your hunt! This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
