Did this a couple years ago. Fantastic drive in August in 30 degree weather.

dunno if everyone in calgary had that idea or what yesterday, trying to get out to go mtbing and there was a 4 km lineup at the 4 way into bragg coming from highway 8.. town looked like the busiest its ever been..covid's over!

But then you miss the arrow lakes Creston to galena bay can't be missed either.

The other big one is Adams lake - the north end is a can't miss. The forgotten lake in the shushwap, there's some nice commercial and forestry sites way back in there.

Don't run that road fast though, it's low traffic so the bears and moose have reclaimed it.

Also good options. The loop I posted does have some arrow lake goodness on it. However, let's face it, BC is amazing away from the cities.

Awesome roads. I actually thing from Calgary you coukd do an even better loop with highway 3 and stay off #1 almost completely. Highway 1 sucks.

OK, you still need the trans-canada a bit. Half a day blasting out to revelstoke mainly. This isn't perfect, and it's certianly a lot slower way to get to the coast, but it is pretty incredible scenery if you like mountains.

I drive a Subie, so I love going through the twist and turns of the mountains. I always dread that final stretch between Fernie and home because it's so fucking boring haha

Right now my friends and I are just trying to come up with a plan B in case our camping trip in Idaho is a bust this August. The preference is camping, but who knows if there will be any available camp sites.

+1 to hwy 3. Its a fun road to drive. its also very nice in the summer. Recommend stopping and spending some time in Osoyoos, do a wine/cider tour and enjoy the weather.

What should we know about hauling a trailer there?

Serviced sites? Can't help much with that, because I usually avoid them. The Porteau Cove Provincial Park has power, but it'll be booked for sure, plus Albertan can't book. You'll need to search up private sites I guess unless you have BC plates and ID. Free backroad camping, or more rustic BC rec sites exist out there, but zero services.

The deal with trailers out there is that the entire highway from Cache Creek to Pemberton is hills. Steep Hills and mostly no passing lanes. You want to know the trailer brakes are working right, and have all that adjusted. In particular, the final hill down to Lillooet lake before Pemberton is nasty steep, and there's nowhere to pull off, no run-off lanes, and hairpin turns. I nearly cooked my brakes on that, and I drive a 3/4 ton. Don't fuck around on any hills, but for sure, don't fuck around on that one. That hill is the closest I've ever come to a wreck, and boy oh boy it would have been a hell of a fireball.

Google maps say it's less than 3 hours from Cache Creek to Pemberton. If you are pulling anything, plan on taking at least 2 breaks, and ideally, stop and camp somewhere in that area. You don't want to be hurrying to make some time around there.

My suggestion to anyone who keeps their truck for more than 2 years, is to upgrade the brakes if you do any BC travelling. The difference between OEM and high quality aftermarket brakes is insane. Worth every penny, even if your OEM pads/rotors still have a ton of life left.

I'll never tow on OEM again, if I can help it.

If I did a lot of BC trailer towing, I might upgrade my trailer to disc brakes. Actually, there's a lot of trailer brake/axle/suspension upgrades I want.
