    Anyone using MR16 LED's?

I am looking into replacing 20 of these, example:

I really like the Feit 5ks.
Canadian tire usually rotates them on sale every couple weeks.

Does anyone know why it's so hard to find LED bulbs in BR20?

Sure I can find them online but they seem to be fairly expensive relative to other sizes. When I'm browsing store shelves, I never seem to find them.

In contrast, PAR20 is available all over the place.

Same thing for Short neck PAR30. I'm still debating if I actually want them at $7.50 each on amazon...

How about the best place to get LED 48" fluorescent replacements that allow me to ditch the ballasts?
    Will fuck off, again.

I didn't even know they made these until last week. Went to an office and first thing I noticed was how amazing the florescent lighting looked. Just blown away. Asked immediately, and was told they just had it retrofitted with LED drop in tubes.

I think I saw LED tube replacements at Costco.

Just reread and see that you want to ditch the ballasts, not sure which kind Costco has.

Somewhere in this thread is my link to Costco LED shop lights, which are pretty decent. I hardwired them instead of using the plug-in.

Am I reading that right? There are LED tubes that can be installed in fluorescent fixtures, no modification required? (T8 size?)

Again, Costco, $20 for LED T8's.

It's almost like no one actually reads this thread.

Yeah, Home Depot has them but I want to ditch the ballast as that eliminates a failure point.

Christ I hate CFL tube lights. They dim over time so it just gets darker... and darker... and darker... until they die and you're left in a sad sack half lit office.

i'd say the ballast is the biggest problem with these, i don't see a point to putting in led tubes that still utilise the ballast, its still gonna fail on you.

My dad and I are retrofitting a whole shop tomorrow. The best way to do it is to replace the whole assembly. You can use the LED tube but you need to ditch the ballast and replace it with a computer controller.

For example - at electrician rates it costs $35 to remove and replace and $40 for parts to change the fluorescent fixture to an LED fixture.

Or just buy the straight replacement.

Had an LED bulb die on me today. It's less than a year old, was "great value" brand from Walmart. Turned itself into a strobe light, which is pretty distracting over my breakfast table.
That's the first LED bulb I've had to replace so far. Hope the rest of them live up to the advertised longevity.

I'd say you get what you pay for. None of my Philips failed, except for one which was dropped from the ceiling to concrete floor during basement renos.

The Feit's were certainly disappointing when it comes to reliability though at that kind of failure rate, but again, they were way cheaper than the Philips at the time. Actually at $13 a pop 6 years ago, they were probably the cheapest ones you can get.
Had another "great value" bulb start to flicker. so at least that one lasted 2+ years. Hoping that the other various brands I have are more reliable.
