    Default RIP Fish tank

We had a small 10Gal fresh water fish tank in my daughters bedroom.
It was sitting on a dresser and sprung a leak yesterday while we were at work. A good part of the water that leaked out was mopped up thanks to the clothes and extra bedding I kept in it, but obviously the surrounding carpet got wet as well.
Her bedroom is above the garage so under the floor board is insulation.

I'm not sure how long the pooled water had been sitting there, could have been anywhere from 3-4hrs. The tank gave way at the seal, at the bottom / side of the tank, not a case where the pump created the issue. the bottom literally gave way. The fish inside did not survive.

We mopped it up using towels and hairdryers to dry out the carpet, but what should be we be on the lookout for post drying? We've been in contact with the manufacturer and they have opened a claim and will review any costs / damages for compensation.

I would lift the carpet asap(just pull up[ from the nearest corner) to see exactly how bad it got. If you have the reg chip foam underpad you're going to want to rip that out and replace it because that stuff is like a sponge and most likely still smell even if you clean/dry it. You probably have an OSB subfloor so all that would need is a good dry and a cleaner/disinfectant of some sort. Once its all dried, replace with new underpad and then try to put the carpet back yourself or call someone.

Take a sample of your pad and go here to get some new stuff

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

If I were you I would lift the carpet up and rent at least one of these - they are very cheap:

Man that sucks :9 I have over $2K into my SW Tank, one of my biggest fears. I have been wanting to (and procrastinating the purchase) of getting a water sensor on the ground near my tank incase something happened.

GL with the cleanup/ repair, hopefully it's alright!

We have SW on the main floor, husband is now a little paranoid (with good reason) about it's life. But, it's one of those things you might never experience or have a run of bad luck.

Oh wow yeah! How big is the SW? I have an IM Fusion 20, It's been running for about 4 years with no problem so that's my little peace of mind! I know some come from factory defective and people will always test by filling and letting sit in a tub for a day or two to make sure it's okay!
