    Default Texas winter

Wimps. As much energy and money as they have, they do not have a ten year cold weather anomaly built in.

Robert Falcon Scott is turning over in his frozen grave.

I talk to a lot of guys down there, none of them were ready for it and a lot of them are farmers and ranchers who are more prepared then the avg person. From pipes not being buried deep enough, poor insulation, coolant and washer fluid not up to snuff in vehicles, Lack of #1 Diesel and propane. etc Can’t get any anti gel for diesel, everyone is sold out. They are used to hours below freezing, not extended days.

They were told to expect rolling blackouts, but it’s never been “30 min to an hour” as informed, they started at an hour and a half and now they’re just getting 15min of juice every few hours.

I look forward to substantial natural gas storage draws.

Dude, this video from the other day about the accident on one of the highways in Texas blows my mind.

Watching that white F150 plow into the pile at the 1:08 mark, a few more pile in, and then the semi smashes into the pile and the F150 gets tossed up about 20 feet in the air and pinwheels. fucking nuts!

From what I've heard, a big chunk of their power production is still generated by coal and other fossil fuels. According to this article, natural gas facilities in Texas still have the ability to produce natural gas. But it's their ability to get natural gas that is proving to be the problem. Gas lines aren't insulated. As a result, pipelines are freezing. (https://www.texastribune.org/2021/02...rbines-frozen/)

Some politicians suggesting to just "suck it up" and put on extra jammies. Pretty much exactly what China would say.

Visibility didn’t look terrible, road is clearly icy AF (rogue spinning tires).

That semi that hit the pickup was at full highway speed....

    Wow.

Texas doesn't get ice covered highways that often. It's possible these people have literally never driven on slippery roads.

Every decade or so when this type of thing happens down there, there's always a video or two of some idiot doing full highway speed, on presumably bald tires, proceeding to spin around multiple times into the ditch/plow into someone/etc.

Texa's go at it alone attitude is what caused this. Their grid isn't tied to neighboring states so nobody can help them if they alone screwed up.
