I don't have any kids, but I've seen even some of my most stubborn no-kids friends become amazing parents. There's obviously fear of failing and fear of the unknown, but I can only imagine that's a natural thing, but I've seen that fear of failure drive people to be a better parent/person.
As long as you have the right foundation and the right motivations to start/build a family, then that's all anyone needs. I've unfortunately seen (as a third-party observer) what happens when kids are conceived to save a relationship, reign in a partner or even for financial gain. They common denominator in all that is that a baby was had for very personal, selfish reasons.

We want kids. But its not looking good for reasons. May have to explore other options. I think we would really regret deciding to go without them.

Given that over half the respondents greatly overestimate the communication abilities and cognitive capacity of their furry family members, I'd say it checks out. If you remove this huge group of idiots, the number would likely look a lot different since I'd wager most/all of this group are the ones that prefer the pets.
This is the most frustrating thing, when there's a couple who really want kids and cannot. When so many end up with kids by accident or by default. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I've said it before here, but I thought I was a dog person until I had a kid.

Less dating and partying happening so I’m guessing less kids. Locally definitely no bump in births from stampeding.

36 Here. For those waiting for a good time to have kids you'll always find an excuse. In my experience there's never been a good time lol We had all 3 of our children during a downturn / pandemic. 2014-2016-2020. But kids are expensive so I think we will stop at 3. 1600-2200 a month in childcare makes me sad

I know someone of relatively modest means who was paying $1450 a month in daycare for a single kid. Fucking hell.

I feel like always having an excuse not to is the lesser evil to “had kids cause was bored”
