$161 for lunch?, awaiting for beyond ballers to say that a lunch that expensive isn't abnormal.
If there is booze included, not abnormal at all.

Not lunch, but had clients out last week at Modern Steak. Four people and the bill was $998.00

Interestingly enough, some people have done that in India because food is cheap and alcohol is expensive. So they basically go and waste food, in India, where hundreds of millions are starving.

I'm an asshole but that's way past my line.
    That is true.

Be his client. So long as you don't live in a dumpy neighborhood. They wouldn't let you into Modern Steak anyways.

Little different going out with valued clients in the evening than a meal in the middle of the working day with nobody important enough to remember their name.

Although, don't get me wrong, back in the day I expensed a lot of booze. The oilpatch I work in has changed quite a bit in the last 10 years, although some beyonders are still living that sweet old school lyfe.

related, I swear @killramos and @mr2mike would love each other.

Was just at Joeys the other day, one Entrée each and three beer each.
    $126

Had lunch at LuLu Bar the other day and between the two of us the bill was over $200

That day was cocktails which average $15-18 each, adds up quick.

I need to find some impressionable exploitation/development engineers if I'm ever going to buy these fancy lunches for anyone. #philphans just get water.

It depends on where you work. I mean in the tech industry, I'm familiar with expense policies at a couple of companies and they're usually pretty strict. Our policy here is if alcohol is more than 10% of the bill without prior approval, it comes out of your pay check automatically.

Back in the heydays of O&G sales and investment banking, it was anything goes. Cash expenses for "entertainment" to buy hookers and blow would have zero problems getting approved.
No tech company I have worked at in the past 15 years has given a shit about this. You had to be quite an entitled asshole about it to even get a warning. A drink or 2 at lunch is nothing and nobody would bat an eye. The last one that I worked at didn’t even ask for receipts if it was under $75.

But public service jobs on taxpayer money are a whole different thing.

It only takes a few bad apples to spoil the party. We used to be pretty easy going with expenses but some of the sales guys fucked that up.

General policy for me is I let the customer order first. 2 beers max at lunch. Always have food on the bill.
    Generally around $50 a person.

Funny enough we have a very generous alchohol expensing policy but a very strict drinking in the office policy.

Even for alcoholics booze at lunch isn't normal unless it's on vacation or Friday.

What world do you live in?

I don’t think I have ever gone out for lunch without having a beer.

That makes sense though. If you drink, just don't go back to work. Simple! I like these kind of rules because it assumes trust in the individual to be responsible. Well, until some bad apples ruin it of course.

Supermajor producer here. 0 tolerance for alcohol during work hours. Yes, that means not even a beer at lunch.

After work events its pretty much wide open though. All organized events are open bar and for dinner a bottle of wine and/or up to probably 5 drinks per person would be OK.
