If you’re looking in this area i’d also recommend looking at Elua.
    I like neat cars.

Any suggestions on where to stay on Oahu? First time going so looking for any recommendations.
Turtle bay resort was 10/10 for my wife and I.

depends on who are you going with and what do you like to do.

i personally like to split our time in Oahu, half in Waikiki and then other half in windward/north shore.

I tried to find a good unit in Elua Village, every day we went for a walk by them my wife always bugged me that she wanted to stay there but I couldn’t find any units that looked updated. The few that looked decent were over $1000.00 a night. Love the location though.

As far away from Waikiki as you can possibly get unless you like ridiculous crowds. The North and East shores are pretty good still. I highly recommend a shark cage dive if you're into that sort of thing. The Polynesian cultural center has a really good Luau but they do let a lot of people in there and dinner is buffet style.

Our trip to Oahu is coming up fast! I'm wondering about the whole Pearl Harbour thing...

Can we just go into the centre and get the required tickets at any time? Anyone have advice about visiting Pearl Harbour? I really want to check out the USS Missouri!

We stayed here when doing Oahu, awesome location, a block from Waikiki beach and walking distance to all the best restaurants and shopping Waikiki has to offer. If you aren’t into night life I would suggest going to Maui instead.

We used a tour bus and I would recommend it. I think it was $35 usd each and they picked us up in front of our hotel, stopped at a famous pastry place on the way, gave us tips on how best to tour, then after we were done they took us to the military cemetery and the old downtown and dropped us back off at our hotel in Waikiki. Definitely worth it IMO. The name of the tour company escapes me but I’m sure there are many. I may have written a trip Advisor review so let me see if I can find it in my history

EDIT: this is the tour company we used: https://www.alohahawaiitours.com/#pearl-harbor
from reading the review i wrote, remembered our tour guide was "uncle Kevin". if you do book i'd suggest trying to find a time with him if he's still working there

Nasty weather reported in Hawaii, apparently it even snowed in Maui at lower levels.

Pearl Harbour is actually pretty boring unless you're a history buff, but it's good for everyone to see at least once IMO. The USS Missouri is by far the coolest thing IMHO - it is off site though, it's not at the museum. Many of the areas are blocked off, but it's still neat to be on a battleship. There is a small submarine you can walk through on at the museum though.

The USS Arizona memorial is literally a room with names on the wall, built over the sunken ship (you can see the oil slick still). Did nothing for me personally being crowded onto a boat and then into the floating memorial with dozens of disrespectful tourists and selfie sticks, but if you had family in the war I could see it being more impactful.

You don't need to book anything in advance, nor do you need a guided tour of any kind - just drive up when you want.

Ok cool. Thanks for the info.

Has anyone been to Dukes Waikiki Restaurant before? I was told to make sure I go there.

Yeah we went. Food, Mai Tai & Dukes Blonde beer was average at best, it's like the earls of Hawaii imo. Dunno why anyone would say its a must do though.

The new international market place on kalakua ave has a plethora of really nice restaurants now. Definitely check it out!

I really enjoyed this place, great food and cocktails and they had live music.

Dukes is a chain and it's on other islands too - it's decent standard food, think of it like the Keg here. The one in Kauai (in the Kauai Marriott) was significantly better than the one in Maui or Waikiki but it's been a long time since I've been to the one in Waikiki.

I've had it, it is both massive and delicious - you'll want to share it with at least 1 other person most likely. Basically mud pie (mocha ice cream) with tons of whipping cream, hot fudge and macadamia nuts.

Nice, be sure to check out Monkey Pod restaurant by there, good food. Maui Brewing Co. is not far off from Wailea as well.
