Default Toronto Marriott Hotel (Blue Jays Suite) Review

Figure I post a review of this place, as it was pretty fucking spectacular for someone that doesn't really care about the MLB. For MLB fans, it's a fucking dream. It's not that I hate baseball, just don't have the time for it, and enjoy my kids little league careers. Anyways, my kids friends are huge Blue Jay fans, so we tagged along on this Toronto trip for a 3 game Cleveland Guardians vs Toronto Blue Jays weekend series.

We planned this trip months ago, and at the time read an article about indecent exposure at the Blue Jays game in these suites, so got the idea that we should do this. Since we booked early, the rates weren't terrible. I think they're higher last minute, if the rooms are even available. Non game nights were $374 + $49 tax + $15 Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) and $2 MAT GST. The game nights were $1060 + $138 tax + $43 MAT + $6 MAT GST.

    Anyways, on to the review!

First off, as soon as we arrived and opened the doors, we were treated to this spectacular view of Rogers Stadium.

Next up, we went downstairs to the Sportsnet Grill for dinner. Even there, you can have seats that over look the stadium. On game nights, you can sit there to watch a game, with a $50 min spend on food and drinks, plus a $20 upcharge for premium games.

Come game time, it was fucking glorious. Room service, clean washroom/shower, beer in hand, on a couch, watching everything happen. Everything was a phone call away with room service. I could eat like a pig, take a monster shit, take a shower, and still be fresh mid game lol. Had a TV and app for in game stats, but really it was delayed for 20 seconds so kinda useless. The view we had, we could see the stats rings so we were able to follow the game and the players easily, from batter to pitcher. I doubt this experience would work for anything but baseball, but for what it is, it's now my favourite live sports experience.

We didn't plan this trip too well, and yea, probably wasted a bit of money. We bought tickets to 2 of the 3 games, which in hindsight wasted that spectacular view and convenience from the room. That said, sitting so low up front, it was hard to see the action as it's much more flat. I prefer the room view for baseball.

That said, there are bonuses for being at the game. Meeting the players (at least, opposition players). Got a pic with Steven Kwan and jersey signed so that was pretty cool. I had planned to be a troll to the family we travelled with, and learnt of a player with same last name as me, so got a Guardians jersey plus his name embroidered. So it worked out great. Even grew my stash to look like the guy lol.

Kids had zero luck getting any signatures from the Blue Jays, as they warm up before gates open (something we can watch from the room). Then they fuck off till game start. Since there was only 2 Cleveland fans there, it was easy getting Kwan's attention.

Finally, was it worth it? I thought so. But really, those bedroom views are the same/slightly higher view than the worst nosebleed seats. Which when we checked, cost $80 for a family of 5 to sit there lol. For me, worth every dollar for the convenience and lack of crowd, while able to follow the game perfectly. With the windows wide open, it was no different than being in the stadium in terms of ambience.

I doubt I'll ever buy a ticket to a game if I go there again.

Good review. Once stayed there after our AMS flight got cancelled. Had a great time in the Sportsnet bar. A game night would be great.

At first I was thinking holy fuck that is expensive. But then I remembered paying 430/night at a fucken motel in vancouver cause I was stuck there overnight when all the hotels were booked for whatever reason. Add in the price of beers and hot doggs at the game and this is pretty much the ufa hack to blue jays games.

Surprisingly, there’s relatively cheap food and drinks in the nosebleeds.

The rooms had a limit of 4 people, but we talked to other families who rented a stadium view room, and a regular room, then crowded into the view room for the game. Split that enough and it’s not terribly priced.

Love this. A cooler of beers at my elbow and room service nachos and this could legitimately be less expensive than real seats.

So how was the room itself? Typical Marriot? Or a little more up/down scale being in the stadium?

Typical Marriott, with a little more marble, tile and glass in the bathroom of our room. Not all the rooms were the same, the other family's room was right beside us, and their bathrooms wasn't as modern. We had a fancy looking shower, they had a standard bath and shower combo.

Almost forgot, the coolest part of the experience for me was watching the fucking roof open and close. Pure engineering porn.

Hey Rage2, thanks for this review, appreciate the effort put into it. This has been on my extended bucket list for years - to see a good home series from one of these rooms at Skydome.

One question - do any of those upper windows in the room open? Hearing the sounds of the crowd/stadium during the game would be much more immersive IMO than being sealed in the room. Not a deal breaker, but just something I was wondering about as i couldn't really tell from the pictures.

Again, great review, I hope next year to follow suit.

Yes it opens. Look at the first picture, the top window slides open left and right. There’s a small glass partition outside to keep you from falling over but the window is big enough for even me to jump out of if I wanted to. We had to move all the stools out of the way because kids wanted to climb it.

Like I mentioned, with the windows open, it’s like being in a seat. It’s fucking loud. Here’s a photo looking outside and down the window to the nosebleed seats.

This was from the first night, where they were clearing out the Motley Crue stage setup revealing the astroturf.

Do they do many more interesting events than baseball there?

Lots of concerts, but there are curtains over the rooms so you can’t see anything. Curtains are there to block room lights from interfering with the shows. That said the view is only back of the stage anyways without the curtains.

Speaking of concerts, we are completely shafted in Calgary when comparing to Toronto. Just last week alone, Lady Gaga was there (didn’t care), Motley Crue and Poison stadium tour (I would’ve rescheduled if I had known), Metallica was right across the border from Niagara Falls (would’ve gone if I had known), and Kendrick Lamar had 2 shows which we went to 1. This week there’s Harry Styles, WWE Monday Night RAW, Red Hot Hili Peppers, Imagine Dragons, and Bill Burr (we had him here in Calgary).

I feel like I’ve been lied to about Toronto, kinda like the Alberta Beef myth. Such an amazing city for entertainment if you have money to throw around. Was my first time there.

What's your criteria for sucking dick vs. not sucking dick?

I spent a lot of time in TO on a project a few years ago, and enjoyed it as a tourist city - lots of great food, entertainment, wandering around, and things to see. Would I want to live there - no, but did I mind visiting on Company dime? Definitely not!

I'm headed there in a month to go to some Jays games when the Orioles are in town, relevant thread is relevant. Not looking to stay at the hotel but good info on seating, lines up from what I've read elsewhere regarding the lowest bowl being meh for viewing.

Think I'm gunna try to find some TD clubhouse seats

Nothing wrong with Toronto in small doses if you are ubering downtown from the airport and going to see Garth Brooks in some giant stadium where the sound and view sucks.

But that's not a reasonable way to assess a city.

The skydome isn't a great venue for baseball unfortuantely. They're dumping $300 million into in the next couple of years to turn it into more of a ballpark.
