I'm just hoping that other people in the government don't oppose everything Kenney does on principle alone, because he is such a terrible human being. I did like a lot of what his party said they'd do, so hopefully being a religious nut job and a bigot don't get in the way too much.

Exactly this, people need to stop being so god damn dramatic.
The same could have been said 4 years ago when the NDP was elected. Tons of people on Facebook said they were moving to Saskatchewan, I think even a couple of Beyonders said they were leaving the province because of it. Of course its all hyperbole, and no one actually left...

Except Sugarphreak who decided we weren't NDP enough for his likings and moved to BC.

I don't doubt that it happens, but I do doubt that it happens more or less based on who is premier.
Agreed, nor are gay people the only ones insulted/threatened while walking the streets. People of all colors/types are mouthed off and threatened for no reason, including straight white males.

A good friend of mine was recently verbally assaulted and threatened for being gay by a passerby. So it does happen. Must have been noticed for dressing so damn well I suppose.
So this happened while Notley was still Supreme Leader? How can this be? I thought Alberta was a gay utopia under Notley.

Did he have "I'm GAY!" tattoo'd on his forehead? How would a passerby possibly know this?

    Sure sounds fishy.

I never got to a point I could leave, but I was definitely motivated to move as much of my income to lower taxed corporate rate, and create a decent income in a tax free sector. I'll be damned if those thieving pricks are getting a red cent more of mine than possible.

I always wondered how many of these supposed "hate crimes" were just coincidence? The most common insult I have heard hurled at random people is "Faggot". If you yell that at enough people, you're bound to say it to someone that is actually gay at some point.

Holding hands with his partner? Dressed flamboyantly? Recognized him from the bathhouse?

And what's your reaction to this behavior? Actually, don't bother answering the question.

One of my gay friend's calls me a faggot if he's making fun of me, I think it's similar to when African American/Canadian, etc took ownership of the "n" word - it by and large renders it powerless to those who will still use it with hatred. Anyone who uses either of those terms as an actual insult toward either demographic is a dinosaur, you just don't hear it much anymore. I don't in any way believe the climate just became unsafe in Alberta for the gay population just because a religious nut is in office today. Society has created a pretty inclusive place and will continue to do so. Dinosaurs will die, just look at the world today as opposed to the 80s/90s. There's so much less hate.

Are you sure you just didn't hear max_boost saying it?

EDIT - yesterday I'd never have said such a thing but this Kenney Government has me feelin' the FREEDOM.

Exactly. Barely anyone says that shit anymore, let alone as a common insult.

The level of upset people get over words is amazing, hard to imagine how some people function day to day.

Was at a “party” one time with some friends of my wife’s to pay board games, and a guy accused his friend of being a f**got for picking the pink game piece. All was in good jest between friends, pretty standard shit. Then this one SJW girl at the table ran out of the room and started crying in the bathroom. Then dragged her boyfriend out of the party because it was too toxic of an environment. Supposedly she has done this in the past when someone used the word rape to exclaim how bad he beat someone in a video game. Again, that’s pretty standard shit. Needless to say I stopped attending those events, some people are too volatile to be near. FWIW I really wish I was making that up.

Moral of the story is I don’t see the value to anyone of banning words. Fuck we get too offended by anything these days. And I think it really starts to detract from the condemnation of truly hateful speech and actions.

Barely hey... guess it all depends.

But I don't want to dig much further into this debate. I always refer to the south park episode

Don't need the PC crowd jumping out lol

oh yeah there's lots of shitheads out there and all minorities seem to catch a lot of shit. Outside of the maybe the hood or maybe on a res how often to white guys get openly attacked specifically for being white?

I was more speaking to high temps point about people not being able to notice someones gay. You are right it wasn't a complete utopia under Notley either, the Edmonton pride shit show up here shows that. The fear is now a traditionally homophobic leader will embolden more hatred.

Like I said he dresses very well and rather flashy. His rather feminine mannerisms likely outed him too. A lot of gay people aren't very difficult to spot.

Yeah i suppose that's a common insult the difference, in at least my friends case, is that it was more them just a single insult yelled at by passerby it was being single out and attacked for being gay.
