    Default Need an Shredder

Any recommendations on a fairly basic home office shredder that's good quality and not hundreds of dollars? From Staples would be ideal since I can get a marginal discount but open to suggestions.

I find those $50 ones you see everywhere are fine for home use unless you need to shred tons of 6+ sheet documents for hours a day.

Agree cheap is fine. I guess it also depends if you care that it's strip, cross, or confetti.

I think the main things are:
-Keep well below the limit of what they say they can do
-Get some oiling sheets and do that once in a while
-Make sure the bin is not full

I just got this one since I killed my last $40 Crappy Tire one (also my fault for not following my own advice above)
I'm happy with this new one.

I got it at walmart. Looks like it's $140 online but was only $90 in store

BTW Get on the train to use stocktrack if you haven't already. It's amazing.
There's also a Chrome Plug-in that adds the stocktrack link into the product page. Works on a variety of stores as seen on the tabs across the top.

Get a cross cut at the bare minimum and oil it once in a while.

I believe the additive they use prevents the canola base from going rancid. My bottle of shredder oil has been around for about 3 years and it doesn't smell like anything.

I have a bottle of 3-in-1 oil that I use, but have soaked paper towel in canola as well. Don't overthink the maintenance on your sub $100 shredder. there's no vtec yo.

I have a microcut from Costco in store and it was only $39.99. It works fine.

    It’s a Royal MC602.

Thanks to advice from @ThePenIsMightier I've been lining the bottom of my kitchen compost bag with the shreddings and never have to empty it anymore. It makes the shreddings un-reassemble-able (word of the week) and it helps keep the bottom of the compost bag somewhat intact. I have a Staples basic cross cut shredder and use the oiled shredding sheets to maintain it.

Bonus tip, don't shred the whole page if you can cut out the important part which is only 5% of the page and just shred that (i.e. name and address portion of a generic credit card offer).

Inspired by @Swank 's post. I, too, have begun lining my toilet with paper shreddings to reduce the turd water splash back. I must say that it works like a charm.

I would like to think that it is also unreassemblable but am sure that, with the correct amount of fortitude, someone will find success.

For the simplicity of the device, I’ve never understood the cost for consumer grade shredders

So much win here, especially for the 2nd use of the word of the week

You take your fire pit to the office? That's next level.
