    Default Any Ice Climbers Here

As the post reads I'm wondering if there are any ice climbing here in the group. Just started at it this winter and would be interested in finding others to go out with.

It's not my cup of tea but if you're looking for folks to go with the best place is on facebook in the various groups.

Used to be.. The Can Rockies Ice page is solid to find people, but its going to be harder in the days of covid.
I'd also recommend joining ACC. They do a lot of 'ice review' and group trips out of the Calgary group. Again, no idea what they're doing these days, but used to be a good way to find people to climb with.

Hope you've got some money and enjoy suffering!

Yes I'm on that Can Rockies Ice FB page, lots of good info there for sure. What is ACC?

I've managed to find boots, crampons, and ice tools second hand for good pricing in my eyes. Into for no more then what I am with my ski gear, as for clothing I have all that gear to from all the other winter sports that I'm into.

Been out three times so far (twice to the Ghost), I'm climbing with a guy that have 20 years of experience who does all the lead climbing and have the ice screws. I don't plan on leading anytime soon so but that's something that could come down the road. I've been pretty lucky so far with the weather so haven't really had to deal with the suffering that I guessing you're talking about.

Way less events this year, typically there’s a group leader every weekend looking for partners. What routes in the ghost did you climb? If you get a chance Beowulf is unbelievably cool, as is This House of Sky. This current weather is gonna make getting into the ghost sketchy as all hell, plus some serious overhead hazard now

Did This House of Sky twice, the old guy was getting tired on the first attempt. Second try at it we got to the bowl when the wind came in and FML that was intense. The guy I go out with has 20+ years of experience behind him and he was even worried. Loved it still the same, but yes can't say I'll be in there anytime soon that's for sure.

Yeah just be careful out there. Ice climbing is a lot higher risk than a lot of other styles of climbing/alpinism... Case in the point this shot from Polar Circus.

Those guys got lucky. Another party a few years back didn't have their luck.

Those guys were dumb and lucky. They were in a zone that they shouldn't have been during Considerable avvy conditions on a sun-effected slope..
