    Year round skiing/boarding? OMG...if only.

However, if Dix gets elected, this resort will die.

    http://www.vancouversun.com/travel/G...108/story.html

I love grizzly bears, but why is there a nagging thought that the Ktunaxa just want a bribe? I mean, appeasement for the "spirits"....

At least the Shuswap First Nation agreed (who hold primary claim to the land, not the squatters known as the Ktunaxa)

    http://m.thetyee.ca/News/2012/03/21/Jumbo-Ski-Resort/
the Shuswap band in Invermere, which has an overlapping claim to the area, has agreed to the proposal and signed agreements for revenue sharing with the developer.
    From the comments:
The Ktunaxa fake Jumbo concern is fronted by their declaration:“The Ktunaxa Nation will share Qat'muk with non-Ktunaxa when such use is respectful of Ktunaxa spiritual values and consistent with our Qat'muk Stewardship Principles,”

I challenge Chief Pierre to account for her lack of respect of the spiritual and stewardship principles of the Sinixt Nation who have been unjustly declared extinct and who suffer from the predatory policy of Chief Pierre's campaign to gobble up as much Sinixt territory as possible.

The Ktunaxa have a choice. They can help their neighboring Sinixt, who have been unjustly declared extinct by the gov't of Canada ... or they can continue their robbery of their neighbor and their greed driven support of the corporate monster under the guise of tricky public relations.

ps: the Ktunaxa are new-comer settlers to Kutenai territory. They were Algonquins, originally from southern Quebec, and acted as scouts of the fur trading companies. They were driven west by the Blackfoot who knew the Ktunaxa were collaberators and carriers of the Europian diseases.

Watch out Calgary - the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa nations. I would bet that hardly a member of their nations has regularly stepped foot in the valley where the Jumbo Valley Resort is to be built.

This doesn't change much for me.

I regularly hike glaciers and ride them in the summer already.

It's a cool idea, but it will get squashed eventually. Not to mention how close the resort is to Panorama.

Well thank you for you input Les Stroud...

    (I kid, I kid)

I think the fact it requires a billion dollars and this fake indian band (fake, given that the land is the Shushwap's) is opposing it will kill it.

I read it's it will just get challenged in courts anyway and this approval really means nothing

I hate when unemployment rates in BC get brought into an argument. The numbers are heavily skewed. Nobody takes into account the amount of people that just don't want to work and are thus unemployed in BC

I've lived in BC on more than one occasion, all extremely small towns. I've never had an issue finding work. Is it work that most people want to do? No, but I like it.

Many many years later. Jumbo resort officially cancelled as part of a protected area run by first nations.

Ouch... I’ve been keeping an eye on the local real estate (you know... in case it became the next revy) and boy, oh boy... I think a few people are going to be taking some big L’s

Yeah, that whole valley is divided quite sharply into class A property and class D property. There is no B.

Have a family member with a little slice of A, but its not an investment for them.

This news means anyone who thought they had C and it might turn into B or A minus, is going to be dissapointed.

I don’t get it, huge chunk of land in a popular vacation locale. A million bucks doesn’t sound entirely out of hand?

    Maybe that's a bad example.

Yeah I spent a bunch of time looking at it and it doesn’t seem super out of the realm. I love B.C. but I always feel like they hate Albertans when I’m out there.

The right outcome at the end of the day. There's just not enough traffic in the area to justify the development, and I'm surprised anyone would be willing to invest in something like that.

    definitely

    - AB folks vacationing in BC tend to flaunt their excess (party loud, big trucks, noise)
    - AB lifted truck drivers, drive like a-holes on the #1
    - AB folks take up spots for BC campers

All this I have experienced hanging around the Sushwap lake area. BUT - this is coming to an end as the days of 20 something riggers with $$$$ are long gone.
