    Default Beyond Optometrist?

My normal optometrist is closed due to COVID and i got something stuck in my eye. Im trying to avoid going to Emergeny for many reasons but options are looking limited.

I assume we have a beyond optometrist on here. If we have two would really prefer in the north but i wont be picky.

Former clients of mine. They are open right now. Maybe not... RIGHT NOW... but they are open today.

I don't know who's open through this crisis but in normal times all optometrists do emergency work, most on a same-day basis. Hit the phones buddy.

Stuck in eye seems like a good reason to go to emerg to me

Sounds like you have this taken care of, but if you have eye issues and need urgent care make sure you go to Rockyview. They are the only hospital with true ophthalmological support on staff/call. If something bad happens eye wise and you go somewhere else, you are going to end up at Rockyview anyway.

I have a ton of eye issues, some of which are urgent, and that’s my standing advice from multiple optometrists and ophthalmologists I see.

It's not like he has a fork sticking out of his eye. He probably just got some jizz in his eye. Casualty of free Pornhub Premium.

Yeah they were my backup. My optometrist and I train together and he's beaten into me that you don't want ER docs touching your eyes unless you have to, plus with COVID I'd rather stay away.

It's a piece of metal shaving that won't come out. I can see it.

It's a spoon actually, not a fork, but close enough since you cant see if it is a spork or not.

The optometry office will see you sooner and get the same end result.

Great suggestion. I really liked their north office. I might switch.

Small foreign object in the eye will be absolute lowest priority in the emergency room most days, so you will be waiting 4-6-8 hours to see someone. I would (and have) wait for the next business day and get into a regular optometrist unless it was something like a chemical or something that was causing bleeding or unconsciousness. These days, an emergency room is the #1 best place to get coronavirus, so that's even less appealing than normal.

Same advice for pinkeye or other eye infections. Optometrists are awesome for those, waaaay better than family doc / Walk-in usually.

Spoon. So you couldn't shoot, ended up dribbling on a spoon just to dump it in your eye, and had a spoon accident?

I just needed an excuse to get out of the house. I was losing my mind. Figured it was the most 'urgent' but not damaging thing to do to myself.

Your typical independent OD is going to have a full suite of tools/medications for eye conditions that don't require surgery. Foreign object in eye? Check. Pink eye? Check. Dry eye? Check.

Unless your problem involves blood, it's better to go to an optometrist. They can prescribe medications/drops for eyes and get you a referral to see an ophthalmologist if you need it.

Agree, and wait time is usually less. Plus odds of having a hot optometrist is WAAAAY higher than a hot doc.

What do you get when you find a hot optometrist who likes to live dangerously and take facials?
