    Default Zero fee investing

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/weal...ting-1.4787710
The latest investing trend: not just low-fee but no-fee.

Wealthsimple and Fidelity shake up investing world offering trading and managed funds at no cost
Fees in Canada have been some of the highest in the world for a long time. Thoughts or opinions on these zero-fee options?

Max, what's your portfolio like at the moment?

I have mine mostly in mutual funds but I'm looking at adding a couple of ETF's.

About time. But I think it will not do much unless some of these funds (exception being wealtsimple) have accesability without having a trading acount.

You need a minimum for a trading account (TD) if not you get hit with fee's.
I actually switched from Wealth Simple to Tangerine only due to the UI interface (and until I get into a steady job).

A lot of these invetsment accounts can make a lot of money (via customers) if they changed thier approached of how they get money into the acounts from customers and the UI.

WealthSimple's trading platform is limited to $1000/trade for the time being.

Seems like a lot of bonds? Why so conservative?

Not criticizing - I'm new to investing. Am just curious to hear your thoughts.

I'm pretty new to it too. I always thought Max was pretty baller but maybe he just wears the modesty well

My current portfolio consists of MF's in Science/Technology, Nasdaq, Blue Chip, and North American dividends so it's pretty much all equities within USA. I'd like to get into the Canadian market a bit more.

Just did some quick math it's actually about 33% ZAG and the number will probably keep dropping as I add more equity positions. So somewhere in between balanced and assertive.

Yea just pick up an ETF like VCN or XIU or XIC for TSX exposure.

And I definitely not baller however I can give you a list of the real ballers on this site. haha

I was just thinking with some banks limiting trading as of late..

    Anyone use Wealthsimple Trade?

With $0 commission, did they remove the $1000/trade limit now? If so, might be a decent place to trade with the $0 commission.

Only if you trade Canada stocks. There's a currency fee on USA stuff that is egregious.

But there is a currency fee on any bank you use as a brokerage too. It might be even less on Wealthsimple Trade.

I just want to know if anyone uses Wealthsimple Trade personally and can trade Canada and US stocks with no limit, and if they see any drawbacks using that vs the big Canadian brokerages?

Edit: Nvm, looks like you can only trade on your phone and there is no real time quotes (delayed 15 min). Hmm... Not sure it is worth the no-commission fee.
