Amazes me that I can drive from the spray lakes road, down highway 40, 1, 22 to Bragg and then to Calgary, and the first truely bad part of the road starts on Macleod... the snow removal contractor the city has is brutal

Who is the CoC contracting their snow removal services to? I thought they were doing it themselves. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Will fuck off, again.
City has their own snow removal department. That’s why it’s so bad when it snows after business hours Friday. Probably union working hours restrictions or something stupid. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Tried to blip my throttle in the truck to do a lazy drift for a 180 turn. Jumped on the skinny peddal just enough to start the slide, and the truck just wouldn't stop rotating with studded winters on and ended up rotating 270 degrees. its super slick out there.

You also have to keep in mind that the road conditions are different outside the city. There's no buildings and cement barriers to start snow piles, the wind can blow half the snow off the highway before a plow even touches it. Plus those roads don't have near the 24/7traffic that major arteries inside the city do. So vehicles turn fresh powder into hardened ice 10min after it starts falling. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
City plowing does suck on the weekend, but there's more factors involved.
The making of stupid on the roads this morning has reached new levels.
Truly amazing.

I wonder if the chemical treatment applied to the roads on DF (apparently glenmore and crowchild were not nearly as bad) does something to the grip? Better just to sand and plow instead?
Speaking as a know it all with zero relevant knowledge I'd say anything that can be applied as a liquid can't possibly do anything except reduce traction at these temperatures.
Trust me, I'm an engineer!

The city should stop using that calcium chloride they switched to. It appears to freeze up with cold temperatures, and will cause excessive rust issues.
And use what instead? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Dear Winter,
I'm tired of shoveling, kindly fuck off
Thanks

Roads were slippery last night. I got monged into free Thai food so long as I picked it up. I got stuck trying to find parking going uphill in Bankview. It was just sheer ice on some of the backroads. I managed to roll back and turn around.
So whilst I was stuffing my face with green prawn Thai curry. I was looking out onto 14st SW from an apartment and it was quite entertaining. Lots of car getting stuck going uphill. They had to put a Police cruiser ontop of the hill to warn drivers coming down.
The drive home later was slightly better. Powdered snow is fine, but what is this Calcium chemical treatment they are using..? I swear it seems like it makes the roads worse as it creates a subtle layer of ice.
It’s just basic road salt. No road salt does well at really cold temps.
CaCl can act at colder temps than NaCl, it also acts quicker than NaCl but at the end of the day at -25 neither works great.
Both are going to rust your ride, both will create ice if the water doesn’t run off in time
I think what’s confusing people is that NaCl is just mined salt so it’s applied in its solid state (to desolve and create a fluid with the water molecules from the snow), where as CaCl is not mined and is formualted in a solution already. It’s not a salt vs chemical treatment as people seem to think it is. Both salts, slightly different properties but both just basic salts

Road Bans: http://www.calgary.ca/Transportation...king-bans.aspx
Massive dump in December = No Bans
Massive dump 1 month later = bans
Way to be consistent.
my neighbor never moves their vehicles for the snow ban so I always end up getting huge piles right in front of my house and can't park, complained multiple times city doesn't careThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
