    Default Sports cars under $50K?

Was having an interesting conversation with a friend on what options are out there for sports cars under $50K. There's the obvious Mustang and Camaro, however they have so many trim levels (that I personally don't know) that it seems only the really expensive ones (GT350, SRT, SS etc) are the actual fun cars. Challenger possibly is another option. These would even be brand new options, but really is there anything else out there? Nissan 370Z? And we aren't talking about weak sauces like BRZ, that one Toyota etc. Let's say at least 350HP or more, the higher the better of course. The whole argument was whether there are that many solid options around?

We are talking brand new but can be something as old as 3 years that falls into that price category (under $50K).

Used TT-RS is a ton of performance/value if you are buying used. 50k new doesn't buy you much these days.

I paid under 50k for my 2SS Camaro which was new off the lot, granted I made the deal in the middle of January so I got a decent deal.

Compared it to pretty much what you outlined and it won out. Things suck on the Japanese side right now, the type R is too much boy racer for my liking, never liked Nissan Z's personally, and then there's the supra which I'd take a Camaro over anyway.

See that's exactly it and was my point. People that are into sports cars, are proper petrol heads and can afford them - are pretty much forced to splurge to be able to get that proper sports car aren't they. It's almost like something they don't really have a choice about because anything that's actually good ends up being up there in price.

I would take a cheaper, new non-Nismo Z and get a turbo kit from Sasha (in Edmonton) to lay down about 500whp for well under $50k.
I'll sell you a set of Work wheels with 325's to help get that powa down and I'd bet you're still closer to $45k.

    Cadillac sedans.

    BMW 3/4 series?

    RC350

There’s got to be more. Not a bad thread.

Of course purchasing a car in general is optional and the same thing with a specific make. I am just saying if you want to then you're forced to splurge.

For ~$50k, I rather have a fun AWD hot hatch I can drive all year round with 350 hp/350 lb-ft.

Spend more for actual sports car.

1SS 1LE Camaro would be my choice, easily had for $50k with discounts.

You can also find M2, Mustang PP2, CTR, M240i, 370Z, Focus RS, M3, Boxster S around three years old for $50k or less if you hunt around.

There’s never been a ton of options for higher powered sports cars at a reasonable price. If you adjust for inflation, fast cars have always been expensive. Want more performance and can’t afford new? Go 2, 5, 8 years old... as old as you need to for things to depreciate into your price range.

Cadillac ATS-V would be a contender. Highly underrated, lots of power, great handling and you can get it with a manual.

Based on recent Bring A Trailer sales, you can't even get a 1999 Honda Civic Si-R or an E36 M3 for 50k these days.

    I saw a 2017 Porsche 718 for 50k

Not a Porsche guy so no idea if that's a good deal or not.
