Someone please tell me why Delta, American or any other airline not based in Canada can't run domestic flights here?
    Canadians are retarded.

Seems like they're mimicking the US model for ex. Delta hub at SEA; United at SFO/DFW

I wonder if the Japan route becomes a cash cow for WJ, they'll expand to HKG or MNL. That would be nice.
I have a feeling given only the middle 3 provinces will be using this route, they probably won't expand to HKG or MNL and let the code share partners take you to other parts of Asia from NRT.

I think where some of the gripes come from is that a lot of other airlines do randomly upgrade passengers when business isn't full. Most of the United flights and Delta flights I've been on, the cabin crew will come through and select passengers with status to move up to business when that cabin isn't full. By contrast, AC will only do that when the flight is over sold. I'm 50K and being randomly upgraded has happened to me twice. It's not something I expect as I know it doesn't happen often and I'll use my credits if I want to; but it is nice when it happens.
Yes, I've been upgraded to actual business class with united, and I didn't use points, dollars or have status. I'm just handsome as fuck and polite to the gate agent.

That's probably my issue. Need to become more handsome, and maybe not wear sweatpants every time i jump on a plane.

Here's some insider info to get you upgraded at westjet.

Sign up for westjet rewards and start building from pleb class (teal) to ultra-pleb class (platinum).

At some point, westjet sends you a customer engagement survey. Answer the questions as follows:

    1. How many flights have you taken over last 6 months? A: 5000
    2. How many flights are you intending to take over next 6 mos? A: 10,000
    3. What percentage of your flights do you book with Wesjet? A: 10%
    4. What is the most important factor when booking a flight? A: free upgrades

    Enjoy.

Another way to approach this is to absolutely tear them a new one, which I have a couple of times

Upgraded to lie-flat on the Toronto-Calgary flight 4 days later and the last couple of times the desk agents haven't charged me for my overweight bags...not that I really care about that cos I don't pay for it, just saves me 5 minutes of receipt submitting

Seattle would be better, I’ll try to find some flights out of there - thanks for the tip. Seychelles does look incredible, have wanted to go for a while now. It’s just a pain in the ass to get to.

Haven’t done French polynesia before but have done Fiji. 10/10 would go back if I was ever down under again.
You ever consider Maldives? I've never been to Seychelles but the Maldives was an experience like no other. Lots of gateways (SIN/LHR/IST/DOH/CDG/FCO/FRA/DEL++) (including 7 daily flights from Dubai (Emirates/Fly Dubai)

I did consider Maldives, the hotel options looked a lot more luxury and it does look incredible. I felt like the Seychelles looked like it had more spectacular scenery just from YouTube/Google and perhaps a bit more low key but I’m sure they’re quite similar. Ideally I’d like to visit both one day.

Going with WJ to Houston next week

All premium seats booked and only middle extra legroom seats left already...fuck sakes, never get my platinum spend that way!

Maldives experience will vary depending on the resort island you stay in.
If you like Dubai lifestyle then Maldives might be better. Easy to fly from SG or KL to Maldives too.

Whereas Seychelles to me definitely looks to have a more low key/French Polynesian vibe.

Thanks for input. I come from a construction background so the only interest I have in visiting Dubai is seeing the architecture and then gtfo. When I travel I’m rarely in the room so I don’t care much about having a floating villa on the water.

For once, it isn't about protecting the market.

It's considered cabotage or the 9th freedom of the air. AUS and NZ have an agreement and some of the EU carriers. You don't really see it anywhere else in the world.

The Air Canada PR department has spoken!

Hardly. I can’t stand Canadian airlines. The Americans absolutely clown Canada when it comes to air travel.

QFT, flew back from Orlando via United in December after WJ royally f'd up. United treated us like VIP's even in economy class. West Jet is garbage these days.

Seems sus with how often you feel the need to White Knight for the worst Canadian airline that exists.

I just state facts, if they don't align with your belief system, that's not my problem. They are the least shitty option available in Canada. I still would much rather have airlines like they do in the USA, but that could be said for just about everything in this shithole country we live in now. Everything here is small time and podunk, not just air travel. Speaking in much more general terms, Canada is a joke on the world stage, and the worst part about it is that a vast majority of Canadians still like to think we are somehow "special". This thread is a perfect example. It's easy to tell who the actual frequent fliers are by their posts. Very often, the people who only fly a handful of times per year have the loudest opinions, and every single one of their journeys can be spun into some sort of "horror story" simply because they have nothing else to compare it to. People who fly frequently, and can draw on their experiences from frequent segments on different airlines can appreciate each one for what it is.

It’s clear that you can’t string two sentences together without betraying that you have no idea what a fact is.

Booked last minute to LAX last night, no option for premium economy again but when I bag dropped at the airport there were 2 premium seats unbooked and I'm first on the upgrade list, flight was only $659 though, need it to be more
