I mean if she had two faced into bran that would have been slick, but literally they spent 5 full minutes showing how she couldn't sneak around a couple of them, only to show her flying through the air, passed hundreds of wights and white walkers.
I think it's because she was reminded of what she must say to the God of Death.

I don't think it was so much the lighting as it was the piss poor quality of the feed giving you all the posterization and crushed blacks with zero detail. This is then compounded by the problem that most people do not have good enough displays to get the most out of an episode like that, nor would the average person know how to adjust their display settings properly. Episodes like this are mastered on $30K monitors and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment, and then sent in garbage quality to everyone's $500 TV's using the lowest possible bandwidth with 100M people trying to stream at once.

I bet the blu-ray version of the episode viewed on a proper setup will look completely fine.

Watched the episode again and there is less banding, especially in the flying scenes. Present but definitely not as bad. When they're flying above the clouds, the scene is quite beautiful.

Also looked for settings and changed things up, can't say that madeuch if any difference.

Thanks for above link, that dragon fight was much better slowed down so you could actually see what happened.

I'm all for suspending belief, but this was a serious contradiction to events that happened only moments apart.

And I pay for HBO, does that make it more valid?

Also, I loved the episode, even with the dial up porn quality feed on Shaw. Was on the edge of my seat for the whole thing.
To use Bran's specific face, IIRC, she would have to kill Bran and cut it off. Not only that, Bran is marked so the Night King would know it's not him.
Arya was pretty good at dodging wights, I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she snuck passed the 'Generals'. The other undead may have been 'Turned off' seeing as there were no longer threats present. NK let his guard down. This in addition to what msommers posted:

All NK and NK Generals had to do is stand back and necromance:

Deadwalker minions squeegee-wipe living things, rise arms, release white walker armpit aroma, rise more deadwalker minions. Repeat.

The only shot lving things had was to bait the NK. And like Idiot, he fell for it. Cold-Idiot had to personally deal with Bran. Not a NK General, not the cold dragon, not a random giant zombie, not a bunch of random zombies. No. He, being as idiotic as Jon "Idiot" Snow, had to do it himself, and expose the single point of failure the blue-eyes had. And it worked. That goes to show, more than anything, that the white walkers shared a powerful human weakness: Pride.
To me, it just was an anti-climatic death for him, regardless of how Arya did it. Seemed too quick and easy. It's just after 8 seasons of build up, would think his final moments would be something worth remembering.

One of his generals did see her though. He turned his head.

Or was he reacting to his hair blowing gently in the wind?

Read something interesting before re-watching the episode.

Apparently Jon "yelling" face to face with the dragon was actually him distracting it where he is actually yelling "GOOOO" allowing Arya to run through as the Dragon was protecting the way to where Bran/NK are facing off.

It was Jon sacrificing himself for the chance that Arya could get through and kill the NK.

Not sure if this is actually what occurs in the episode but I found it interesting and plausible. It sounds like Jon is yelling "GOOO" but it is unclear and I am not sure if I am just hearing that now that I have heard about this.

Sorry if someone already posted this!

I thought he was just testing his Targaryn-ness. If he lived, he's a Targ, if not, oh well.

I don't think Jon knows what Arya is capable of doing, I highly doubt this theory. Jon wouldn't let Arya run off to try and kill the Night King/protect Bran. Not only is that out of character, but to me, it was pretty clear his main intention was to get to the Night King himself.

Jon hadn't seen Arya since I think season 1, and I never got the impression he had any idea what she was capable of. I also doubt he would let her since he would try protect her and he "white knights" everything.

I don't think there was much left to protect as they were all basically 1 minute away from death...the video posted above shows the theory with Jon possibly yelling "go" at roughly the 1:22 mark. It just makes more sense to me than him just yelling at a dragon.

Like I said, he was either testing his Targy-ness, or pretty much gave up hope and would rather be a pile of ash than a zombie. There's absolutely nothing to suggest he knew anything about what was going on with Arya, unless that was dropped on the cutting room floor to make the kill more of a surprise.

i agree with this. And really, only Sansa and Bran know her 'powers' and what she's been doing..

To be fair, very little in that episode made sense, what stood out in in particular:

    - Dothraki on the front line without dragon glass or valyrian steel. Before red woman showed up unannounced, they were about to purposely send them in with a 0% chance of killing a single wight.
    - Army in front of barricades, siege weapons in front of barricades, siege weapons only fired once, wasting all your undefended Calvary with a head on charge into darkness, women & children in the freakin crypt against people they know raise the dead etc.

Also lots of people were "protecting" other people, even though they were all 1 minute from death - wouldn't be out of place for Jon to do so for Arya IMHO, especially since he's still her big brother. But I generally agree with the others, I don't think he was yelling "Go" at Arya, but I guess nobody knows for sure.

Yea, the whole opening fight was a giant WTF shitshow. Really hope the hollywood types can pull it back into a decent ending, but I'm starting to doubt it.

The Dothraki should never have been in the fight. They should have been south, in await for Cercei's army. And again... So many arrow tips could have been made with that glass, when all it takes is one hit
