Do you really want to take someone phoning people to record their contact info to be the one stabbing you with a needle? Hate to tell you but those are different job requirements. Retraining all the contact tracers to work at vaccine sites would be really stupid waste of resources versus just getting qualified people to work at the vaccine sites.

Edit: unless you want them to be recording peoples health information ... but I doubt they are trained to know what different conditions / medications may cause issues. I guess they could be the clipboard pushers for check in.
Not necessarily. There was a large call for interest to contract tracing for lots of Nurses and Paramedics, so many of them are doing just that in temp roles. Just like many are in temp roles for swabbing and stuff too. I'd say a fairly large subset are qualified for vaccine administration

You can go in the morning and ask. If they don't have enough appointments for the day and shit's expiring, they'll give it to anyone. Pfizer pharmacies only, as they have a shorter storage life once it shipped from deep freeze.

Looking at the sticker on expiry, it looks like it lasts several months in deep freeze. The 5 day expiry timer starts when it gets packaged out of deep freeze to get shipped. Once diluted, it's good for 6 hours. So yea, if a pharmacy gets a big shipment of pfizer and not enough appointments, by day 5 they need to dilute them or they go bad. 6 hours to get them into arms.
    This is getting stupid.

Get the bureaucracy out of the way, and move to fully open vaccination.

    No kidding.

Do the people that currently qualify not want them or do they just not know they can get them yet? Either way its a huge fail.

Canadian government theory is that they need to tightly control distribution of resources.

Opening it up to everyone is racist. Feds have placed requirements that every native has to have the chance to get a shot before whitey is allowed.

dude, my kids are taught in school that the mere existence of whitey in North American is racist. Then they are taught that giant plots of land that behave like residential school (lets call them reservations), along with a large dollop of segregation and race based policy is the "solution". I'm telling you, liberals are fucking weird.

The solution to bad Liberal interventionist policies, is more Liberal interventionist policies.

    Duh

It’s ok though. Because Liberal means freedom in Latin.

I'm not eligible, but I appreciate you sharing this information. My friend is lined up right now (didn't bother calling, just walked there) and said they just announced they're not taking any more walk-ins.

Agree completely. This staged rollout is complicating things more than it needs to, any vaccination is better than no vaccination

People are booking, appointments are filled well into the next month. Just that shit keeps opening up from cancellations (people double booking and no show) combined with higher deliveries than anticipated with a short shelf life product causing all of this. The open slots are filling up quickly though.

Yeah, just open it up... Maybe the case count will be lower as less young people will be spreading it

As someone said earlier, pharmacies are booked into next month and I believe AHS is booked into the end of the month (if not next month by now). When 2B opened up on Wednesday, people were able to get same day bookings, but that was only because slots were opened up overnight. I was on the system Tuesday evening and the earliest shots were 1.5 weeks away at the Convention Centre. The next morning a bunch more slots opened up in the city.

I wonder if these are caused by a lot of no shows and people didn't have the decency to cancel.

Like my co-worker's mom, originally booked at Co-Op this week but AHS got a spot open out of the blue that's 6 days earlier and they went to that instead.

They cancelled of course but I would bet a lot of people didn't.

From a post on crackmacs there was a pharmacy that had a set allotment then their allotment got doubled and then even tripled. So it's likely they book what they have coming but then as the province gets more and ships more and more that the pharmacies are adjusting and adding slots to make use of extra doses. I wonder if any of the pharmacies are contacting the appointments weeks out to try and rebook them in sooner, though that might be a lot of legwork for them.

I talked to the pharmacy by my house when I mailed stuff yesterday and they said they haven't received their pfizer vaccines yet but expect next week. So seems a number of pharmacies are still waiting to start their rollouts. I'm hoping thats the case so we see our vaccine numbers go up quickly.

This is why they need to just open it up. No "lets find a person with a condition for this shot that might go to waste" nonsense. Walk out the fucking door of the pharmacy and ask someone in the parking lot if they want one. Fucking governments.

My coworker just booked Telus Convention Center for Monday this morning.... then an hour later got another appointment at a Shoppers for tomorrow.

I wonder how many people are double booked and how quickly the province and pharmacies can pivot on short notice once people start cancelling or missing their double bookings.
