Jojoba and argan oil are common as the carrier oil in the "fancy" beard stuff. They tend to be easier on the skin underneath and most closely resembles your bodies natural oil plus vitamin which is good for hair growth. Some people find the coconut oil stays greasier on them or their skin (particularly those that are acne prone). I would pop by Kent and get the true explanation however that is my understanding.

    Personally I use this https://bluebeardsoriginal.com/original-beard-saver/
Ive have the same bluebeard product too. I found it really did not work for my beard type. My hair is like coarse copperwire at times. I used coconut oil only recently and I was suprised how easily the beard became manageable and to brush.
I'l stop by Kent on the weekend. Thanks for the input.

I used to make my own... coconut oil and beeswax. Nothing to it. That said, now I find my beard is solid and does well without needing to really put anything in it.

So I've decided to grow more of a beard. I've never gone past a month before, generally because I have had to be clean shaven for work.

Now that I can grow a beard, it is curly as fuuuuck and in looking for something that will keep this wild hobo beard down properly, what do you guys suggest? Anyone have this issue?

I had a similar issue. Mine was very wirey and coarse. It just looked like I had a dead rat on my face.
I used a beard brush & coconut oil made a big difference.

What's the difference in brushes that cost $3 or $30 as far as what it's supposed to do?

I just look for boar bristle, and not too dense of bristles either (for my own beard, it's pretty thick).

As others have suggested Amazon. I got lucky, I found one at barbershop in the deep south. I paid $12. Well not strictly a beard brush, but has the same design and not too dense bristles.

Every beard is different and will need a different brush and product. But the general consensus is to brush it out and oil it.

If you have a thick beard, blow drying it while combing it out makes a big difference.

For you dudes that grow a full beard, but keep it trimmed so it doesn't go fullly wild, what length do you trim to? I feel like mine looks patchy when it's trimmed short. My current trimmer has a #4 as its longest gaurd, but I think I may need to go longer. If I'm not wearing my glasses, I like how it looks. Maybe I just need to relax a little and stop 8nso3cting so closely?

Never really been a beard guy, maybe it's part of my mid-life crisis?

Eat more haggis that'll make it grow in thicker! Results in chest/back waxing though...

I trim mine at 3.5, 11.5mm. just printed a guard in the size I liked...

I need a better plan for neck too. Can't let it grow. Just can't.

I never keep mine trimmed. I just clip off the fly aways and leave the rest.

Beard brushes and beard conditioner or balm/butter helps with the rest.

I hate the look of a "groomed" beard as it just looks so fake and un-natural

I rocked a massive beard for several years. It started going seriously grey even though I'm only 35 so I stick to the 3-day growth now.

I tried numerous oils from different shops - never noticed a difference in quality though obviously the scents varied. I tried some waxes and balms as well but other than for moustache styling I prefer oil.

For trimming, a steady hand, lots of patience, and a good pair of electric trimmers. Safety razor for neck lines.

My secret that I haven't seen others mention before is to use tweezers (I take my girlfriend's eyebrow ones) to pluck stray hairs on my cheeks or even neck.

On my neck... none of this weird chin line shit.

I don't cut a "sharpie" line like a lot of Middle Easterners do (although I also don't have a thick black beard like they tend to. I just use electric clippers to gently fade the rest of my beard into my neck and then shave the rest of my neck clean with the safety razor.

    Something like this:

I just go in once a month or so to my barber and pretty much nothing in between other than maybe trimming my stache a bit as I hate that shit touching my lip. Personally couldn’t give two shits about the grey. I kinda like it. I am fortunate that my beard grows down and doesn’t get wild. I pretty much just shower, towel dry and run a brush through for a couple seconds and call it a day. Maybe if I let it go for a couple months I use a bit of balm on the cheeks etc just to keep it a bit closer to the skin but that is it nowadays.

When mine gets longer its gets a bit unruly. I use this and it works great: https://www.amazon.ca/Brush-Black-Na..._=sb_s_sparkle

Cheap enough, boars hair (what you want) and contoured to your face.

I also got a new trimmer that I quite like: https://www.amazon.ca/NORELCO-Philip...2563256&sr=8-1
