Cottonwood is decent, but no idea about the water status. Lundbrek or something works.

It was full this morning at around 7 and on our way back home I decided to stop by. I guess it’s not free firewood, but it’s also based on an honor system. $8 for 1 or $30 for 4 stacks.

Would love to find some birch but everywhere is super expensive for a small bundle - like $14-16

I might have to go up to that dude in Airdrie, seems decent.

Birch is expensive. Burnco sells it, although it's sometimes wet.

Birch, one of you should start a side business offering to remove dead birch trees from people's yards for a nominal fee or free - the number of dead standing birch trees I see in older communities is quite something.

The insurance required to do urban lumberjacking is probably an issue. I mean, I can get it down, but aiming it away from building and overhead lines is harder.

There's a place in the NE that isn't horrible.

Spending three nights camping by Keremeos. Huge private site next to the river. Finally picked up something proper to cook on, Weber Q with all the accessories off Facebook marketplace for $250. Name: 55354FDD-A36E-44BF-BD96-9934CAA74DAE.jpg

I just cancelled lower lake too yesterday partly because of the shit forecast too fuck. never doing that again. Also the trailer is in the shop, not sure it'll be done in time. should have risked it though, wanted to camp there for a while now.

Haha, we ended up canceling our trip last week as well cuz weather forecast looked shit. Ended up being beautiful. Subconsciously i think we were looking for an excuse to cancel anyways... wife and i were just really tired last week and were not looking forward to packing things up and driving for 3 hours.

new plan is if the trailer is done to bomb out to sandy mcnabb on thursday or cataract if it's full, heck maybe we will end up even further south.

FYI they quietly opened up group camps yesterday. Too bad we already have plans as group camps usually are the go to for how many families we coordinate with.

Cataract is a pretty nice place for a back-up plan. Not my favourite, but it's not bad at all.

If you keep traveling on the road sandy mcnabb is on you will get to bluerock campground. No power but a very nice campground which i prefer over sandy as i can fill water and dump in sandy anyways. It is always my sandy backup plan.

Personally I think Sandy has to change their policies sooner than later, every time I head out there its packed with lawn chairs or kids tents holding sites until Friday or Saturday. It has completely turned me off of that site, last year i had to move twice because someone paid for the site but put nothing on it (not even the paid tag) and then boom Saturday morning I'm in an argument with Karen about how she paid for the site Thursday but had "a family emergency" that prevented her from coming out until Saturday.

Edit: The hosts at Sandy always side with the person who "paid" first. So in other words if I pay for a site on Wednesday until Sunday and put nothing on the site not even the reservation tag and you pay for that same site on Thursday and pay until Sunday.....well get ready to GTFO when I show up at any point during my reservation irregardless to how much of your "reservation" remains. Can't find another site? Too bad, no refunds because you should have had the clairvoyance to know someone had already paid for the site......Its a pathetic to run a business.

Official Chinook PRA review (with pics).
First visit to this location of my life, I think up until recently it was not reserve-able.
Ok, this place is only 5 minutes off pavement in the Crowsnest Pass region. Even pulling a trailer, it's no more than 3 hours from Cowtown.

Located on Chinook (Formerly Allison) Lake, which has nice kids fishing for small rainbow trouts if you bring live worms for bait. There's a trail around the lake that kids can enjoy. There's longer trails I'm told, but we don't go far. I saw some folks with mountain bikes too, but not sure where they take those. Pretty Mountains in three directions, a kids beach, and an area to launch canoes or fishing boats.

Sites are all well treed and reasonably spaced. You won't have trouble with your neighbors. No services in any loops. Here was c-74:
    Attachment 92726
    Attachment 92727

Loop intel: Loop A and B are up on the hill, and loop C is down a very steep hill beside the lake. Loop A has the smallest sites, mainly for car-camping and tents. Loop B is better for trailers and RV's, some really huge pull-through sites there. Loop C, as mentioned, is by the lake and day-use area. That means you get quite a bit of day-use traffic on weekends or holidays, but you can walk to the lake to fish or whatever. It's a long way from A and B to the lake. Like truly, if you have kids, you'll end up driving, which is tough if you drink, so be warned.

When you go, before you drive down that big hill, at the turn for loops A and B, put your truck into 1st gear (or even 4low) for engine braking, and take your time going down that hill. And when it's time to come back up, use 4Low if your vehicle has it.

Anywhoo, good campground, you should check it out.
