I don't suppose they can re-use some of this pipeline to patch up the old ones if they should need repair? I mean, its a shame to have it like the Mexican wall - where it is a complete wash. Its not wide enough to be repurposed as a hyperloop or anything like that.

Desperation breeds desperate ideas. If they had put 1/100 the value of the wall or pipeline into building a surgical mask factory maybe none of this would have happened. Shoulda listened to the crystal ball.

So does how many guns does $5B buy? And can it be done by 2023 election? And can the projectile reach White House?

Probably is what JK is thinking right now.

Cool! How does aiming work for this? I'm naively assuming it can't shoot down a target right at the crosshairs at the precise moment and has to be launched early for timing.

Can we use that, in combination with the Burns Slant Drlling method to send the oil straight to the whitehouse?

Dug up my numbers. Across the USA federal lands account for roughly 10% of all oil and gas leases. However it's more like 25% of all new shale oil drilling, which is what people think of (and what I worry about at work).
Shale well don't last very long though? I wonder how many years of inventory they have for permits ready. Also still cutting off new permits probably hampers production as I'm guessing they drill the ones they expect to be more profitable earlier on.

Kenney wants to sanction the USA. What are we going to do? Not sell them oil?

Kenney wants to make sure everyone blames Trudeau vs himself. Trudeau aint going to do shit to screw up a relationship with a new administration, and why should he? I'm doubtful Biden gives two shits about Alberta and maybe having put a bet on trump winning the election plus having one of your Cabinet ministers as one that helped run the 2016 election for Trump isnt exactly going to endear us further.. And before killramos gets on here and harps on me being anti-albertan, im pro KXL, but anyone who didnt see this as being the likely outcome is just living in a little UCP bubble

If literally any other multi billion dollar bilateral infrastructure project between 2 countries was cancelled for purely political reasons within hours of taking office the response would be very different.

Except because it’s Turdeau and keystone the whole situation gets a shrug and a pass.

He’s just giddy he gets the first make a wish call from the celebrity in chief south of the border, so he needs to be a good boy so daddy doesn’t cancel the call.

I don’t actually care much about keystone xl specifically at all, it’s just more of the same in the long list of stupid things we come to expect from this centuries virtue signal first, good policy decisions 69th attitudes.

You are right. But somehow USA production is very resilient.

I think the USA and Canada would both be better off if us production started to show serious declines.

They mainly wanted it for inexpensively launching satellites. A gun yes, but not a weapon.

He campaigned on cancelling it and was VP when Obama cancelled it last time. Would it have made you happier to have him not cancel it for a year or two and then do it anyway? What could Trudeau possibly have done to keep this alive?

I personally don't blame Trudeau for KXL. I blame him for Northern Gateway and Energy East.

Well for starters he could have respected his own state departments assessment of the project and him and Obama shouldn’t have politicized it in the first place. The who situation is a sunshine and rainbows spectacle that accomplished nothing. In any case what Obama did has little to do with the fact that the project was issued a presidential permit in the end, it’s all on sleepy Joe.

As for Trudeau, we just renegotiated our multilateral trade agreement, seems like something to have been in the consideration if he had any intention of defending Canada’s interests. Should have been pretty easy to do considering he was negotiating with a guy who had approved the pipeline. Or how about not neutering the lines only competitors and putting us in the situation where the US held all the cards. That’s all trudeaus doing.

“What could Trudeau have possibly done” literally anything north of 0 would have been a start.

But yea it’s Jason Kenney’s fault for being the only Canadian politician in recent memory to do anything to advocate for the project. That’s why it’s cancelled.

Seems people are more upset at the optics of not stomping feet and wagging a finger at Biden to show we're upset. Trudeau doing it to make Albertans stop crying even though it's a meaningless and ineffective gesture is basically the definition of virtue signalling.

There's nothing to sanction. They didn't put any tariffs or sanctions on Canadian products so it isn't comparable to whine about steel and aluminum. So doing so would be starting a trade war and result in higher costs for Canadians of American goods. Just fucking stupid. All because of what? That the president removed a permit, something that was a condition of the permit in the first place (basically a 'the President can revoke this at any time for any reason' condition), of a project that was already held up in the courts, that wasn't considered viable without government investment.

Plus a province that has no political capital to give and no political allies to speak of, has no business asking for favors in the first place. Especially publicly on Inauguration Day (read the room).
