Has more old school Williams in it to me.

Racing Point looks like a carbon copy of the Mercedes... They have been using Mercedes wind tunnel since May. Think they will be a tough team to beat in the midfield and possibly on some tracks the front runners.

Think we will have a battle on our hands this year between Mercedes and RB. Honda now thinks they have the same power as Ferrari plus party mode.
Its hilarious how close they are.

Tobi Gruner from Auto Motor Und Sport tweeted

"When you talk to other teams they are not impressed by Racing Point running an "exact copy" of last years Mercedes. Unfortunately I'm not alllowed to tell you which teams are complaining."

Well if Haas was able to get away with fielding a Ferrari copy, this shouldn't be a problem?

Agreed, if this leads to better racing in the midfield im all for it.

Force India has been vocal about Haas doing the same thing over the years. Lots of constructor prize money up for grabs. FIA continuously sided with Haas. Racing Point has precedence on this, cant see it not being legal.

Wow don’t know if anyone else is up but Mercedes drama is spicy. If they can argue it’s legal, which at a minimum they do since they developed it and brought it to testing, it could be a game changer. Like them or not, they are seriously pushing the needle forward with a big dick move like this. No hiding, just out in the open for everyone to see too.

I wonder how much time and tire wear they save by adjusting toe in/out over the course of a race.

    ^That's an awesome innovation.

How does that not contravene the rules though? Regulations do not allow adjustments to suspension while a car is in motion.

Sounds like they've been talking to the FIA about this system for a while and are pretty confident that its legal.

You can tell Racing Point is spending some serious coin to be competitive, like it or not creating a carbon copy of the Mercedes team cannot be cheap. I am betting they only get better once AM is involved next year as it seems they have dropped the WEC entry of the Valkyries in favour of likely focusing on F1. Next year is going to be wild from a competitiveness perspective.

Yeah, I'm sure they have. Likely also have one or more contingency plans in place should it be banned.

Allison's smug smile as he spoke to media about it was telling.

Interested to see how long it takes for the other teams to bring their own solutions. This will significantly improve tire degradation/wear.

That mercedes steering setup is super cool. All the other teams caught off guard.

Accelerate = natural tendency to pull back on steering wheel and reduce tire scrub
Decelerate = natural tendency to push on steering wheel to increase toe out.

Apparently the rules mention nothing about adjusting wheel ANGLE on the fly.

Next, MB might implement a system that works based on drag, more drag = less toe out.

    Suspension, not allowed.

Not only are the others caught off guard, it makes them look like complete donks for wasting time obsessing about some minor angle on some random body part, where as this is a complete game changer.

I wonder how long it will take for the other teams to adapt and if they can get it done somehow during this season. Looks like on paper Mercs will dominate again if they cant copy pasta fast enough.

    That didn't take long:

"Marko believes DAS is ‘forbidden & prohibited"

They will protest it in Australia. Behind the scenes they will be building their own version as fast as they can.

Toe out under braking doesn’t make sense, the wheels will want to naturally toe out under braking, wouldn’t they want to toe in to try and neutralize it and prevent scrub, then slight toe out to help turn in?

That is fucking cool. I've always thought about having active toe changes to minimize tire wear and maximize cornering balance, but to do this mechanically. Awesome.
