Default What to look for 5k AWD

so I've posted my LS430 for sale as i don't really need a 3rd car right now, so I'm looking at options for replacement.

I want reliable and AWD around 5k, wagon if possible. I was looking at Subaru but I know they have head gasket issues.

I know the e90 328xi is pretty solid with the N52 if its been maintained, but these are the only 2 that I can really think of that actually look decent.

    Any other options?

Love these discussions. Not sure I'd want a W-engined VW as a cheap beater, or a volvo of any kind. Probably the safest bet is the Matrix, but you better have an exciting personal life, because that car is thrill-free.
Subaru has problem, sure, maybe, but they are well understood and should be reasonably easy to mitigate or repair, I think.

I just don't know if I can do a Matrix...lol same with the MB uggghhh, but they are kinda interesting.

The VWs/audis im scared of in that price range and don't know enough about them but I really like them.

Buy cheap Honda Civic, swap AWD system from something in. Turbo it. Enjoy ?

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

My testosterone is so high in my bloodstream that I can drive a Fit or an odyssey and still feel like cock of the walk, but I understand others may not have my advantages.

Is RHD an option? A Stagea fits your criteria fairly well.

I'm considering it. As long as my wife doesn't have to drive the car, I'm open, but I'm not familiar with reliability.

I would suspect there are Gen 4 Outbacks in that price range now which were supposed to have the head gasket issues solved. I've got 2 of them (both 2012) and once has 230km and the other has 125km without any signs of headgasket issues at all.

If you're a gamblin man, that W8 passat would be awesome. Those things sound great with exhaust. Hate to know what maintenance would be like for problems that may crop up though.

I'd see if you can find a well maintained subaru. Older legacy GT would be awesome.

Lastly, if you're selling your lexus because you don't need 3 cars.... why are you replacing it? 3 cars (-) 1 car (+) 1 car = 3 cars still. What am I missing?

I'm not looking to replace it right away, just looking at my options. Who knows, I might have to depending on work, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there

    May be some old RX330?

I was going to say old RAV4 as well, but not much price difference to a old RX330 ..

I bought an Old RX400 Hybrid couple year ago, over 300K km now, comfort and great on gas, (no big deal now, but when gas was $1.2 ..30% saving was good) original plan was making it winter beater ..

But at the end of the day, my wife and I drive it most the time! LOL the Mark Levinson system is amazing, and the DVD system can keep my kids quiet :P
    The Original !

Whats the maintenance like on the RX400? how is the hybrid system??

This is another car high on my list, but I know nothing about hybrid maintenance.
